Ok, so now that the invasive surgery is over I've gone upstairs, dragged out a 61 SG Reissue, my Gibson Super Goldtone GA-30RVH (quad el84, dual channel w/6db boost per channel via footswitch), and various speakers to record in my Grendel Dead Room.

So I grabbed the AC/DC Back in Black backing track I found online and started recording. Tell me what you think. I've missed notes all over the place so I'll just admit that up front, OK? I'm going to go through one speaker at a time and record them, and post the links here.

Guitar: 61 SG Reissue, Wolfetone Marshallheads, WCR wiring kit, 50's style
Amp: Gibson Super Goldtone GA-30RVH, Channel 2 for chords middle position neck pup vol 6, bridge 10, boosted for solos and only on bridge pickup
Amp Settings: Gain: 3 (10:00) Level 8 (3:00) Treble 6 (1:00) Middle 9 (4:00) Bass 5 (12:00) Master Volume: 5 (12:00) Reverb: 2 (8:30)
Speaker: M75 16 ohm 25 watt
Mics: 2 SM57 one aimed just outside of the dust cap, the other near the doping edge by the first rib of the cone.

Tell me which one you think works for this song and why, OK? Thanks.

To My ears the second clip sounds closer to the original. The first clip sounded to boomy to me, but that could be mic placement , but I would go with the second clip.

and back off the guitars in the clips there to up front..

Those won't be the only clips I do, more tomorrow. I purposely made the levels of the guitar parts a little louder to make them easier to hear, but I could remix it lower to have it sound more like the original tune.

H75's and Scumnicos tomorrow.

Both sounds fuckin nice, second is clearer but a hair stiffer, I would prefer the first one but a hair more high ends..........

Hey Jim,

The H75s sound better for the rhythm, and the M75s sound better for the leads. The H75s have more highs and lows which makes them brighter, clearer and tighter for the rhythms, whereas the M75s are too loose without enough highs. However, the M75s have better breakup for the leads. This is the classic ac/dc formula

BTW - great vocals! Is that you?
