Suggested settings for Boss GE-10 or other EQ's
Just got an old Boss GE-10 EQ pedal and wanted some suggestions.
I messed around with it yesterday and found that I only really needed to boost a couple frequencies.
1K to 4K seems to be the territory that I like boosted a bit. I only put the volume fader up to about +6db.
What freqs do you guys boost?
Another thing I've noticed is that my Lindy Fralin Unbucker is pretty unstable. It starts getting microphonic on me if I boost it too much. I've emailed them about it, but I think the only fix is potting it or getting a new pickup.
It squeals near the frequency I like to boost too.....

If there's no quiet, there can be no loud.

set it to where it sounds good! haha... that's a personal thing. probably depends alot on your pickups, amp, speakers etc. i like to cut that 4k twang, but that's just me & my typical rig. what sounds good to you
is good bud! i guess we are in the evh section, so maybe the "frown" shape applies...

from an EVH sound standpoint -
my experience is that boosting the middle frequencies 3db or LESS adds character and good grind across the whole sound without sounding like yer EQing the piss out of something - make it a gradual curve to keep things natural sounding - my opinion would be that at +6db on any particular frequency you will prolly get a lot of noise "SSHHHHH" or unnatural sounding tone. if yer amp is cranked as it should be in an EVH style you won't need to go crazy with the EQ - it's a subtle extra push into the front of the amp with an emphasis in the middle. that's my thinking on it.

Mine was 90 euro's.....
Jeez, I wonder if this pedal is one of the key elements of TONE
On the other hand; I've been recording and gigging now for 5 years with a TC Electronic Parametic Eq pedal, which is a great tone shaper as well.
Hmm...let's see if the Boss can make it to my pedalboard!

Well, with having no experience with an EQ pedal, I certainly like mine alot. Whether you have a lower output pickup (like me) or just need a little more shaping, the Boss GE-10 certainly does a great job.Ruben wrote:Mine was 90 euro's.....

Ever tried to take an inventory of the parts inside and see if they are all still available?Star*Guitar wrote:I've got two..bought mine a few months back...loved it so much I bought one for backup. There is a little transformer in there I was worried might bite the dust and I don't want to be without mine.
