EVH 12xxx build
http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse. ... id=1782238
my account doesn't allow high res pics, so sorry for the blurry images.
This amp has the merc 0100JM non self lead OT and george's dual tap power. using low tap 420B+ with two tubes pulled. Basically the VH spec, except: .68uf for both input caps, 630 pf lead mixer, 500pf normal mixer, Ralle's .68/4.7 presence, 32/32/100/50 filtering. This thing just nails VH I tone if the presence and tone controls are jacked and can get very heavy and cop 'kill em all'. With tone and presence backed off, i get great 70's tones like zep II, some early Billy G, etc. This is the best amp i've played, original or clone. The OT is key. It doesn't sound like a stock marshall with a dagnal tranny. But i'm not building a museum piece or a clone of an average plexi. I want the tones i hear on my vinyl records, which are cream of the crop, exceptional plexis, and this thing gets it. Super saturated and rich, but does not get muddy, blurry, or farty, and does not sound hi-fi or modern at all. That is what i hear alot with the merc stuff. It needs to be paired with a nice full and meaty '68 spec circuit, that's all. Absolutely no schrill or harshness at all, even with presence, mids, and treble dimed. Thanks to this site, and all the helpful diagrams and people, even a guitar player and not a tech can build a plexi that compares to the best ever made. It's friggin great ! All for around a grand to boot.

yes, the merc tranny is a blast to play on.........it's unfortunate you'all are such a skeptical bunch. sign of the times i guess. I've been abusing my axe for at least 20 years now and know what tone is and how to get it from the hands, not pedals or distortion. What i don't know alot about is computers and how to generate sound files, and frankly only get on the computer to discuss tone on this site and don't have alot of interest in computers or technology in general. I am currently looking into some stand alone digital 4-tracks though. I may see if i can find one that can easily convert tracks to mp3 or some other computer form.

You have to understand....when someone builds one of these it is almost obligatory to post clips for other to enjoy/evaluate.
Here everyone jumps in to help you through the mire of building one...you can almost be certian that something is going to loose or connected wrong.
So after all of that help...to hear the fruits of one's labor is the reward.
In other words..you owe these guys the favor of posting clips...
So go out and by a recorder my friend...!...Yeah I can spend your money as well as you can..
