SEYMOUR DUNCAN EVH VS CHARVEL EVH HUMBUCKER...NOT THE SAME?!
Does anyone know who makes the EVH humbucker in the Charvel ART Series EVH guitars...I heard it is NOT the same as the Seymour Duncan EVH....anyone???

Apparently they are wound by Fender. The only Charvels I know of with the SD "EVH" or "78" pickup are the San Dimas bullseye replicas.

I've tried and heard a couple Seymour Duncans get great VH tone. Like a SH5 over 20 years ago, and even JBs. So I don't doubt that the EVH 78 sounds every bit as good, but I'd rather geta Darkburst with an A2 Magnet, or a High Order A2 8.7k assymetrical wind. All these are great choices thgat I know work.
I don't know about the Charvels. I'm a little gun shy after all the Peavey stuff.

Well you know how playing a stock strat sounds through an amp thats moderatly distortin ? Wish you had a bit more gain/sustain, well thats a decent analogy of a lower output humbucker compared to a higher output one. The only guitars that are made now in any numbers that have good feeling necks and flush mount Floyd Rose tremelos are the Peavys and Charvels.

I don't like the way High output Pickups sound through my plexis, or the way those big tremolos suck a lot of the tone away. I like the 8.5k to 9k range for VH. But even the Higher imp JB sounds good to, and it's A5, and is in my signature at the bottom. So go figure..
I like these pickups in a strat with the Vintage trem, like a mid 90s MIJ 62 RI that can be had for $600 on Ebay, then pop in a $60 High Order A2 8.7k Assymetrical wind Humbucker, or a $140 A2 Darkburst in the bridge, and you're closer to the guitar on the First Album than those EVH Charvels that cost thousands. Then later on if you want to put a custom neck you can, but the neck on these are nice as is.

I agree about the tone of the vintage bridge being better, but if you use a bar alot, especially in a live situation it helps to stay in tune, so that the rest of the band doesnt get mad. I have heard people say they can keep a stock strat in tune, but thats just what thier mouths are sayin. Ed and Yngwie come, or in Ed's case came the closest, but no cigar. If you want the first album guitar( front loaded ash body,21 fret maple neck, etc) get a 70's reissue strat off of e-bay for around $400 . Drop a mini seymour duncan in the bridge or rout for a full sized humbucker. Thats it, your done. You got the correct wood, bridge and neck. Northern and southern ash sound very similar. Get the neck refretted, when your ready ,to 6105 fret wire and have the fret board radius flattened to about a '12. Then you would have almost the same guitar.

I haven't compared Northern Ash to Swamp Ash personally.
Everywhere I've read where Northern Ash was different tonally (darker and heavier), than Swamp Ash (lighter and Brighter) My main guitar in my sound clips is a Swamp Ash body, with KOA top,that I think sounds great with a JB for VH. But hey if they're the same as Northern Ash.. great.
There's some people on Ebay selling replacement Bodies in all kinds of woods, including ASH
Some bare, some loaded.
I want an ASh or Korina one painted black but with the Vintage Bridge Installed, but no pickguard and then I might take my neck off my HM start, and use that until I have Warmoth build me a custom neck.

Even If I buid this guitar I would try to copy my Brian Moore C90 neck.
That thing plays like butter, the fast easiest neck I've ever played.
I like it better than the Wizard cut, or Charvel Necks, and I like the finish so that you don't get all those finger marks, and it makes it quicker.
Supposedly Ed used a Brass nut and kept it oiled.
It's a battle to keep these in tune, but the dynamics
are just so much better, that's it's worth it.
I wonder how much a locking headnut sucks tone.
What if you used a Fender Vintage Trem, but use a Neck with a locking nut. It would make it stay in tune better, and the bridge wouldn't be a tone sucker.
