alnico 2
455 refers to the wind count on 42 guague wire

don't know if the bobbins are mismatched like some pafs are noted to be but it's by far my favorite pickup

Alnico 2 pickup on the H455 from Tom Holmes. I have two of them and I've loved them for the last 6 years. Just a great sounding low output pickup. I've tried WCR, Duncans, DiMarzio, so many and they all come up sounding generic next to these. They just have a wonderful open and "clanky" quality to them. I would caution against the Holmes H450 in the neck position because, I am quite sure that is Alnico 2 as well. I find the Alnico 2 lacking in many ways in neck pickups. They always seem to lack a certain string attack which Alnico 5 retains in that position. My main guitar, an older Les Paul is actually set up with Alnico 5 in the neck with a 7.7K reading on it. The bridge is a Tom Holmes H455 which reads 8.2K. Spectacular product that pickup is, but not cheap! HERE IS THE INFORMATION FOR TOM HOLMES:

I have not played that one yet. For Alnico II humbuckers, I do like the Gibson '57 Classics and new Burstbuckers. I'm partial to the (unpotted) Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers and Antiquities. Of course there is a limit to how much I will spend on a pickup.

I LOVE the Holmes! Most complex pickup I've played.

That said, I'd love to try a voodoo.

I've never heard of Tom Holmes except from you guys on this forum. Has he got a website?

Heck, that guy lives close to Nashville. That's only 2 hours away from here..maybe I'll go dig through his trash for rejects. ;)
Why is it we can remember where all the wires go, but can never find a pick?
