alnico 2 and 3 magnets

Post by rockstah » Wed Mar 01, 2006 4:44 pm

Got some magnets from Jim Wagner and just tried alnico 2 and alnico 3 in my darkburst pickup.

both recorded the same. 12 series per dans layout

i believe alnico 2 is the sweetest of the two.
both 2 and 3 are way sweeter and not as edging as alnico 5 which is what came in the darkburst.

see if you can tell.

(hard to tell alnico 2 is the funnest to play at this point for me)

I can tell. The A2 is, like you said, a little sweeter. The A3 seems a spec edgier on the top end.

How do you change the magnets? I've never tried something like that before.

i agree totally.
4 screws on bottom pickup - loosen alittle allows bobbins to be raised from pickup base and the magnet slides out.

Hmm, I've got a High Order A2 Gibson spaced pickup I'm not using... maybe I'll see if I can swap the magnets into the A3 pickup in my main axe. Thanks Mark!

The Alnico 2 seems to be a little clearer, with a little more of a cutting edge to it...
