Noticed that Phil X's 1976 Marshall JMP has a Laydown transformer

Was this ever standard on these builds? My understanding was that the Power Transformer on Superleads was a Dagnall T2562 laydown until '73, and then they switched to a stand-up?

I was wondering how important the Chassis and PT are considered to be, in a VH Spec build? Looks like Phil may have had a replacement?

PT is important with regards to sag (voltage drop) when hitting a note.
Upright PT's are equally good if the specs are the same. Any PT is great if it doesn't provide any nasty hum. It's probably more important to get low filtering in the Main and Screen filter caps.

PhilX is a major EVH freak. His amp definitely looks like a vehicle for tone searching besides showing the scars from endless gigs in Toronto.
