A new clip...

Hey Guys. It's been a while... here's a new clip... My amp ( as usual ), cab and my lp loaded with gibsons 500t... I've been trying to eq the mix in cubase a bit... to try to recreate the "poor" post production sound from that "after zero" sound and some reverb as well... Just my guitar... no EVH music this time...

Let me know if the link doesn't work...

Great to be back... been busy with my band... and actually kinda nice to have been away from here for a while ( don't get me wrong )... to focus more on the music, but now when things cools down, it's inevidable I'm stuck here...
The same nfb as before... I tend to switch between 27 and 47k at 16 ohm... on this clip it's at 27/16 ohms. The reverb is from cubase 5, REverence dub plate... it works, but I guess there are better ones out there...

Sounds great!! I wish you'd rent that rig to EVH to record the next VH album with. Can you imagine how fine he would sound returning to a roots sound like that? :shred: :shred: :shred: :vh:

Hi Ralle, great clip. I have been following your clips, tone and playing for a number of years. You always deliver the goods. I was interested to see your choice of PUP in the Gibson 500t. I don't hear that PUP discussed as much as a lot of the other Van Halen style pickups. Is that one your current favorite and is the ceramic part of why your are digging that particular PUP. I thought I recalled that you were rocking a Super 70 at one point. I have one and it is a great sounding PUP, but darn the squealing on that one.

Hey Megaro.
Thanx for those kind words. Well, the 500t was in the lp stock when I bought it, but I kinda chose it for the pu since it's a ceramic, and yes I prefere the ceramic pu's... but it was a Dimarzio Super Distortion, not a Super 70... For now, I'll have to say the 500t is my favorite, but I allso have a SD jb that I've hade for like 30 years wich I like very much... But I think I prefere the 500t

So, what amp settings did you use on this clip? Also, at around 4:41 in the clip you start to play a riff that EVH used frequently during the club era and for the first tour...Is it possible to get a tab of it?

The tabbs? he he... I'm just noodling something simular to what I think I hear Ed play... I haven't got a clue how I did it... sorry
Well the settings are the same as allways... everything on full except bass and vol2 they're att zero.

After listening to this clip a few times it reminds me of the "oddball stock parts" clip you did a few years ago. This begs the questions: Are you still using the oddball stock parts in your amp or have you returned to the more conventional Super Lead circuit? Also, for a while there you were running the 2K7/0.68uF arrangement for V1b, is that still the case?

Yes I still have the 2.7k/.68u combo... been using that for quite some time now... doesn't feel right with 820/.68u... As for the oddball stock parts; I actually don't remember what I had in there for the oddballs  ... But that there are some "odd" parts in there, that's for sure. Actually I'm going for less gain ( don't get me wrong, It's still the sound from the pre vh1 and the vh1 sound I'm going for )... I'm hearing less highs, or should I say less gain in the highs than I thought it was initially... It's ballance of it all...
You could say it's the more standard superlead config for now, but I'ts a work in progress as we speak
I can say one thing though; The Dave Friedman speq is out the window, and it has been so for a great while now... actually I'm getting ferther and ferther away from it the more I dig in to it...

I think you had the following specs on the "oddball stock parts" clip:
2K7/0.68uF for V1b.
A 0.0022uF decoupling cap for V1b.
820R/0.68uF for V2a.
44nF PI input cap.
47K mid pot.
27K/16ohm NFB.
