Something to try from making a joke (Variac'd input)

Post by mightymike » Tue Oct 20, 2015 12:36 am

The other day when JNEW and I were making me some pigtails for Variacing between head and cab, I put the 2 plug sides together, checked continuity and laughed that it looked like a freaky guitar chord. JNEW thought I was saying to use a variac between guitar and input to amp.

Damn.... You know I got to try that now.

The competition is on to see how may Variacs one can have in a single rig.

If you have an effects loop, put one in there too.

Brilliant! I'm there! This should emulate those long cable runs. You have a variable length of cable all in one dial at your fingertips. I'm thinking a 1amp variac will do the trick. :D

See, what i always wanted to try was replacing the little resistors bolted to a heat sink for C e r r e m's Mod with a variac. never did though. chicken.

Yep, I would agree with that. And probably between the last effect on the pedalboard and the head. Shielded guitar cable? :what: IDK. Stuff is getting nutty for sure but it is an AC signal just like amp to cab, wall to head, etc. Definitely very low risk experiment. 8)

How crazy can we make this?

Wow that would be wild Twisty. A variac with the C err rem Mod resister would help with power handling and make it an Adjustable RL circuit. I would be chicken to try that too. I need a cheap beater OT to try stuff like this with.

I was thinking thst a variac between amp and guitar might drop some of the voltage, but if you put it between the pedal board and amp where you have an EP3 circuit boosting the signal before going to the variac, this could get interesting.

Real interesting

you forgot a variac between the players hands and the fretboard, and between the players feet and the ground, and also four variacs to sit the 4x12 on
