This is my newest 100 Metro build with the new SoZo Vintage Caps, newest Protype SoZo transformers, an alder body, Voodoo, SM57 on the cone.

Cool - sounds like it needs a bit more gain for early VH, but the amp sounds great. What spec is it built to? Early '67 or transitional 12000 series '67?

1959 exactly with an 820 split not a 2.7.

Sounds good John. Drench it in plate reverb and you are a good way there. The alder is making it a bit woodier than the original. My main guitar is made out of alder and has a similar woody quality to it.

I don’t really go for a VH sound.


I like a thicker, smoother sound. I think my 12075 sounds at least as much as his tone in most instances. It is as fast and open but has more raw overall tone, think Angus young meets VH.

With these new transformers and caps I am trying to identically replicate my 12075 amp in feel, airiness, smoothness and fatness etc... It is an early lead head with a bass circuit and a 5000 pf on the volume.

What I find with the lead head is you are stuck sounding like VH. When you play AC/DC it sounds thin. When I play VH on my bass head it sounds like good VH.. lol


In doing these transformer tests I also wanted to do a later lead head to see where I could get and for you VH Fags... lol I do love him too....

This amp was on for 10 minutes and very stiff yet. 40 hours it will sound like a different amp all together. I will post more clips as I play with it, but I can assure you the new transformers will live up to the SoZo standard and will be the best on the market or they wont be on the market...

I am making these transformers and Vintage caps to be the best available without any compromise at all.

To give you a heads up with absolutely no deception like some... :/ This transformer is copied from a transformer that was tested right next to the #1 VH head and then tore down.... The steel is custom texture, quality and stamped. The core is exact with real self leads on the correct thickness and type of dielectrics.

It is a very amazing transformer so far, see why I had to make a lead head!
Now if I had the ash guitar!
