Delving into Kramer era tone...
this will exit some folk's window of cool tone but i thought i'd post it anyway.
i saw a Kramer body on the bay and for some reason decided to do a Hot For Teacher build (see link for build thread)
http://halen.com/evh/index.php?name=PNp ... torder=asc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
its got pretty cool tone. i dropped a JB in there but along with a 250k pot and a black beauty cap in line to the jack. this is the 3rd EVH guitar i've seen to have sported a cap in the circuit. results are nice. mellows the JB out but still keeps the stellar harmonics. Lots of low end girth and no thin floyd tone. btw, the body is plywood...
i'm still messing with the NFB to get rid of some of the gain and really dial in that 85 live grind. This clip was a bit too hot but i've got room on the white dial to get it a bit cleaner.

no post processing. my usual rig.
cheers

Sounded great man, had nice 'chunk' to it
It would be interesting to hear it wired straight to a 500k pot.

I think it sounds just dandy. What's the body made from?

It's plywood? Or is there just a veneer on the top and bottom? Did you see any odd sealer?YMI5150? wrote:honestly i have no idea what the wood is. plywood of some sort. thing is really fun to play

definitely plywood. you can see it in the neck pocket and all through routes. the only sign of odd sealer is in the control cavity. black. kept me from doing full relic but that's fine. surprising tone.

The Focus models were solid - usually great pieces of wood.YMI5150? wrote:striker

what are the specs on the black beauty cap? where did you acquire those?
just solider it on the hot leg between the jack and the volume?
