A new clip... some changes though...
The Drake 2.5k ( well you allready knew that... )
Metro 1203-80 PT dual voltage tap ( here it's at 240 vac primary, and at the highest seccondary; 178v )... My wall socket voltage is at 210-220v AC... so this gives me a b+ of 460 at 240 vac... unloaded... loaded it's 445 v...

Plus: I got a MM1400 from Strat ( 8.9k ) that I just put in for this clip... and, a while back I took out the floyd rose, and put in a stock fender whammy instead...

3 springs... yes I do... but the thing is, it feels different than it sounds... it feels as if the sound isn't as raw and bity as it sounds... I'm really used to my DSD... but I do feel that this MM pu brings it eaven closer...

I called Brian, and send him some pics of it... and he thought ot looked like a 1203-80... either way, it sounds better than with the T2562 pt...

Downloaded and saved to my Ralle folder, it's that good. I kinda got this look as I started listening

Really glad you got hold of that MM1400! Way to go Strat!

Does the MM1400 you're using now have less bass than your DSD? What differences do you notice between those two?

It's like more open in the lows, meaning it's not as hot... and that leaves more space for the mids and highs... mind that the output is less.. don't exactly know how much, but it's noticable... it requirers more effort in the playing...
I can't really say wich I like the most... the MM is more EVH, but I'm more used to the DSD, so...
When I listen to it, I have to say MM1400, but when I play, I say DSD... I allso have to say that the MM1300 is totally out of the picture... don't like that one at all... at least not my 1300...

That's sounds great Ralle! I've been saying for years everyone had tunnel vision on those cream pickups. 9k...13k...Ed probably didn't know which he had in at times.
My fav tune from the club days as well.

Thanks for comparing those pickups.

I'm glad you mentioned the MM1300 because with mine the low end is heavily emphasized, while the high end is lacking. Is that what you found too?

It is not a good tone match at all with the Super 70/Destroyer combo I'm comparing it to. Whatever pickup VH used in franky it seemed to match up fairly well to that Super 70/Destroyer combo.

That's what I feel exactly... the 1300 is way to muddy and edgeless
I think the DSD ( at least mine... -78 ) is the best pu I've played... up till I got the MM1400... I can't really decide wich is better... they're different... for different playing... Like I said, I'm more used to the DSD, but the MM sunds more EVH...
And since it's harder to play the MM, I don't really know wich one I like best... I guess it takes some tweeking ( again ) and getting used to...

Sounds great.

The 8.5k or so ceramic has more PAF like things to it, as would really be expected.

The particular guitar is going to play a role in how a MM1300 13k ceramic or DSD or MM1400 8.5-9k or Super 70 or 59 or whatever is going to pan out in the end and of course the amp and speakers etc.

Sometimes it all matches great and other times not so great.

About all anyone can say is that Ed did use a Mighty Mite model and it matched with his gear.

Ralle,

That sounds really really good. Interestingly ( at least to me), I was listening to some of your clips yesterday on Soundclick. The thing about your tone versus mine is the crispness. That is the best way I can describe it. It isn't necessarily sizzle, although there is sizzle but the tone is crisp and tight. I have to think that a piece lies in your hands and pressure or lack thereof impacting the tone.

So, I have a MM 1300 (13.92k) and I really like it. When I first put it in, it was very muddy and ugly. BUT, when I dialed it away from the strings, the tone blossomed. It showed me out the distance to the strings can really impact a pickups tone.

I am curious if you tried adjusting the MM 1300 on your guitar. It may yield better or different results.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Roger

WOW! That is some spectacular playing! Dang!

That pickup has early VH all over it. Definitely sounds ceramic, slightly different than the DSD. Interesting....

I wonder how a stock Super 70 would sound...as Twanggg says, the Destroyer with the Super 70s is very close to the Frankenstein on the first album. I just can't recall hearing a clip with a standard Fender tremolo and a stock Super 70 (forgive me if you already tried that or someone else has and I just haven't found it yet)...

Your tone on "We Die Bold" is very similar to the demos...less toppy than the first album itself...very nicely played!

Ralle,u need to get some Pre rola greenbacks!the 64o2 are nice ,but don't sound like the old speakers!the opt transformer and pickups as well as other stuff are compensating for the difference in the speakers!i think u have a fantastic recipe with the 64o2 to get his vintage sound!but if u through in true pre rolas u might find the opt or even pickup not to be correct
