Electric Sitar track on "ATBL"
This is probably insane, but that has never stopped me...
With all the Guitar Hero isolated tracks floating out there, I wonder if anyone has, or could in the future post the electric sitar track by itself for the solo sections of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love". The isolated track of "ATBL" that I have heard features the sitar and guitar together for the beginning melodic parts of the solos (maybe they were dropped right on top of each other in the mix) but at the end when the main guitar ad libs before the return of the chorus we don't hear the bent and tremolo picked lick that the sitar is doing by itself...
It is really easy to hear it on the original recording, I just thought it might be really nerdy to have the electric sitar track isolated. I just played a cool electric sitar this weekend and thought it might be fun to hear Ed playing his isolated:)

Seems to on the right channel only of the stereo guitar track...here is the sitar ...with some bleed over and reverb.

That is cool, and it is a better separation for the beginning of the solo than what is on the Guitar Hero iso track (of course this is just the the original recording with the balance adjusted), but the rest of the solo is not in the clip and that part is really what I'm after...the tremolo picked D note that is bent to E on the G-string. I'd also like to hear the entirety of the sitar track on both solos. I can hear it clearly on the original recording and what the sitar is playing is even easier than the Frankenstein parts...I just think it would be cool to isolate the sitar as fully as possible.Good Guest wrote:garbeaj wrote:This is probably insane, but that has never stopped me...

Odd that the Guitar Hero isolated track seems to blend the sitar and Frankenstein parts into one, where on the original recording they seem more distinct?

Re: Electric Sitar track on "ATBL"
I'm resurrecting this ancient thread that I started because I have put together a full "semi-isolated" electric sitar track from the Guitar Hero isolated guitar and vocal tracks...part of the sitar track is on one and part is on the other and I edited them together so that we can hear the complete overdub more clearly. There are two separate sitar passes in each of the two solo segments of the song...which blew my mind because I always thought it was one continuous sitar pass in each solo, but it is two! Pretty neat!

That's pretty cool. It always blended in so nicely with the guitar, I had a hard time separating the two.

Yep, so did I...and so did the guys that transcribed that part for the Cherry Lane Publishing official songbook. They have it completely wrong, but I can't blame them. At least we have the major advantage of having the isolated tracks to work with and modern audio software to manipulate them. It is a tasty part that makes a simple melodic solo sound killer!Star*Guitar wrote:That's pretty cool. It always blended in so nicely with the guitar, I had a hard time separating the two.

Cool, I didn't know it was two passes either.
Thanks!

You are welcome! This is something that I don't think anyone has ever found. The fact that it is almost 40 years later and we are still discovering things says a lot about the quality of Van Halen recordings and Van Halen music in general...JiMB wrote:Cool, I didn't know it was two passes either.
