Just did the Mod 5 to My Plexi

Post by Atomic Punk » Fri Jun 03, 2011 12:12 am

Hey guys,

I recently rebuilt my 12000 from scratch and decided to try the 2203/mod 5 tweak.

I'm using a Squire Bullet (the ones with the plywood body  )
The amp is running on 2 KT-77's and into some old Carvin speakers.
I think it has enough grit for me but some good speakers would help. Let me know what you think!

Nice job. Sounds pretty good. Does it still sound tight all the way up?

So which 'variation' of the mod v did you go with ?

Whats the v2 bypass cap (.68uf)?

You using the .1 pi caps or the .o22's ? Sounds like the .022's.

I 'HEAR' the distinct 'Mod v' tone in your clip. IMO, you are the ONLY person, so far, who has gotten that tone ) who DIDNT get Mark to perform the mod.

Sounds good bro !

Yeah, what he said. Pickup? I'll stab at Burstbucker or a '59 (just for fun).

Wow, keep going back to listen to it. Nice chops, ruuuuuude tone, and that Squier rocks!

Yeah it does sound very tight, I was hoping for a little more sag. Maybe it's time to get a variac.

I pretty much followed the directions on the "VH style mods" thread.
10k v1a
100pf bright ch mix cap
.022uf v1b bypass cap
25uf v2a cathode cap
I am using .1uf phase inverter caps

Haha the Squire bullet came with 3 single coils but I changed out the pickguard with one from an old Hohner ST Lead pawn shop guitar. It has a humbucker w/coil tap and two single coils. I have no Idea who made the pickup and what the specs are.

There are directions in the first sticky of the EVH section. It's only a few component changes

The PPIMV was at like .75 and everything else was on 10. It was too late at night to turn it up.

If the amp is running on 2 KT-77, then you're pulling 2 tubes out on this?
