I saw that; that's an Ultra Linear OT. If that OT is the one, it might explain the need for a fat cap on V2. I wouldn't go so far as to the O100JM-VZ is Ultra Linear, but from what I hear, it is definitely more hi-fi than the C1998 and has a more of an extended frequency range as well. That Simms-Watts OT is a possibility, although I'm sure it sounds nothing like the OT that Chris has.
Here's an even better question; what manufacturer would Arco Electronics have sourced their OT's from? Did they have a catalog back then? It seems reasonable that Jose would have used something readily available to him from his suppliers. Cerrum or Plexified, do you have any knowledge on Jose's company "Arco Electronics" back then? It seems more probable that it was an off the shelf part, but for all we know, this could be a small batch custom made for Ed by a 3rd party at Jose's request...good luck tracking that one down.
"TJB" says that Jose told him there was a transformer place over the hill form Jose's shop.

Anyone know what this place is; what transformer Company is...or was "over the hill" from Jose's shop in Sherman Oaks, CA? It might be a good place to start. Mercury Magnetics is 15 miles away; that's one possibility I guess, and might explain why they have it listed as an "original design" on their website.

Valley Electronics ...transformers winded by hand for Eddie and Jose by a guy named Arson...R.I.P.
...
Knew I mentione4 this before
Edit to ad this info:
The amp with the half power switch was being offered for $10,000 with a caveat should Eddie want it back, he'd sell it back to him.Anyways here is some of the write up..note the mention of a half power switch, and custom wound transformer.
"This amp was the Channel 1 prototype for the stereo 100w "golden amp" that he (Jose) and Ed designed and built, but never marketed. It has only been used in the studio for important tracks since I got it in 1989' (except I used it once for a gig @ Gazzari's on the Strip-it was way too loud-"St. Thomas" 1989) and has original Sylvania 6CA7 tubes. It has 4-inputs,master volume w/1/2 power pull switch, the INSTANT STANDBY SWITCH (only seen on Jose's VH tour heads, variable line output(for output to Ed's H+H power amp during the sammy years), old superlead circuit boards, orange caps,X-former wound by "Arson" (the guy @ Valley electronics that rewound transformers by hand for Jose & Ed and was a master @ Echoplexes R.I.P.)."

...and if not, how do we get the specs for that old OT? This seems like the most logical place to start looking.guitar007 wrote:Great info. Is Valley Electronics still around? Do they still sell tranny's?
Hey, I found a "Sun Valley Electronics" in the L.A. Area, but no "Valley Electronics".

I think there are just a few people who can fill us in ...C*****..tube tramp...and Mark C...they would know all the nooks and crannies to do with these old transformers....
Sounds like old military surplus might be the way to go for something differant and unique...I know if I was a tech in that part of the world at that time ..that's where I would be heading for beefy transformers and such...to hell with the commercial crap.

Re: Is this the pic of the 2" Drake?
I just found the first legit lead to that Ot of Ed's... it looks just like both Eds and that Ot CM dug out from that Super Bass of his...
It's in page 106 in THOM book... the whole page contains a bunch of park amps... in the seccond bottom row, there's a Park 150 that has an Ot just like Eds... four endbell screws, a'n all...
Anybody know anything about that amp?
I think it's a late -70... but I'm not sure...

What's THOM?
Plexified knew about some of this stuff as well. He's mentioned it for a while.

I can't find any pictures of the park 150, but while looking, I noticed the OT in the marshall major looks very similar...

I assume it's completely different from the other one, but I guess it's another possibility.

It's right there... at page 106... that page is full of Park amps... and the seccond from the bottom shows a Park 150, front and back...

What about the rare drake 1201-99 output transformer?
There's one on ebay right now from a '71 that says it's all original with 4 bolts,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... 0786546826
but I've never seen one with 4 bolts before. However, I've only seen pictures of like 3 of these so who knows.
The real question is, what is the primary impedance of the 1201-99 ?

This is Drakes version of the C1998 and it has the same specs.

Re: Is this the pic of the 2" Drake?
Assuming the tubes in the picture originally posted are 6ca7 fat bottles then the OT is almost exactly the same width. So it is most likely a 1.5" dagnal 1998 OT. What seems to be more interesting is the choke. It looks to my eyes to be the same choke out of a 71. Does anyone know what the specs are for these chokes?

should be 3h, 110ohm, 100mA, although these are known to vary a littleVelva wrote:Assuming the tubes in the picture originally posted are 6ca7 fat bottles then the OT is almost exactly the same width. Re: Is this the pic of the 2" Drake?
do you know how this would vary from a 68 plexi? what would using a choke out of 71 (if that is what happened) do to the tone. i am thinking out loud but would a 3H make a 68 plexi less stiff than say the original choke that came in the 12301 plexi?
