So what do you guys think is the best VH1 pickup [only VH1]? I know this has been debated for years, but i'm sure you guys have had some more time to experiment and have new conclusions. So what is the VH1 pickup round-up for 2011?

After all I have read and heard here the last few years in clips and in posts-i just went out and purchased a super d today.
I don't expect it to work where my sd59 does. But I bought that 59 on clips i have heard here. It works really well in a higher gain cascade type circuit. But the question is this, where is the broader mid bump and top slice and sizzle? What about the alledged lower gain circuit of a plexi Ed used?
I am looking for answers and I think after what I have heard and read on the super d, it very well may be the link to it all. However, it cannot fit where the 59 shines and vice versa. I shall soon see

If my conclusions are correct from all the things I have gathered, I will post my reasoning later why it made perfect sense. Or maybe I will walk away more confused lol!
Heres go tryin a new pickup and happy st pats to all

I did the same as you, bought the 59 based on clips heard here and was pretty happy with it. I bought the SD and the clouds parted for me. I hope it has the same effect on you.

A Duncan 59 or Dimarzio Super Distortion so far. Hmm...I remember the article where EVH mentions he used a potted PAF. And, an article where he used a Dimarzio Distortion with a PAF magnet. Can't remember which came first. The 59 clips i've heard sound pretty good. But I can't find clips of a DSD into a Plexi. Anyone know of any?

Nice

I checked out some of the other clips of the '59 and they also sound great! So do you think EVH used a DSD type pickup in both the Frankie and the Explr? or a PAF in one and a DSD in another?

Everything that I have seen and heard so far tells me that Ed used stock Super 70s in the Destroyer for the recording of VH1 and a stock Super 70 in the Chris Holmes Destroyer on
Women and Children First...

Has anyone tried a alnico 8 in the DSD? i would think that since eddie liked the super 70 and probably wanted the shark and frank to sound similar he may have slapped a 8 magnet in the DSD to get them close to each other? just speculation but you never know?

I do have to thank everyone here that posted p/u soundclips. No matter what they were, each was used in only the purpose and that was for brown tonage. Much more helpful than Dimarzios or Duncans general generic sound clips, getting tones most don't give two turds for lol!
It was a great service to all here on this forum that took the time to share
