What type of diodes? A I would assume thay are connected like this:

They are Zener diodes, so are hooked up in series, but opposite polarity (bands pointing away from each other).

With the type of zener (zener voltage) you may vary the onset of the clipping. The lower the zener voltage, the earlier the clipping occurs, and vice versa.

Cool thanks. Was there a certain zener voltage used on the original jose master?
