My Latest 12000 Creation
Here's my latest 12000. I'm getting ready to test voltages, fire her up, and ship her out to a loving home.

I keep looking at the shiny turrets...I love your work Mike!
Mike, do you think there is a noticeable difference in Sozo's as compared to real mustards? And if so, is it a bad thing?
I know that everything has a price but forget for a second that mustards can cost upwards of $15 each and up. If the cost was negligible, would it be non-issue?

Yes, I put the 330uf so it it could be easily removed. Cause you never know. Good eye.
Not to take anything away from Mr. Sozo, but I personally do like the Original Mustards better. To me it's like the diference between going from a JJ preamp tube, to a NOS Blackburn Mullard in tone recognizability, and purity of tone, especially when you roll the volume off, to play some clean.
less harsh sounding to my ears.
I've been getting the .022uf/400v for $20 each, and the .68uf and .1uf for less than that. Which isn't that much more than Sozo, Hovlands, or F&Ts. So I figured, why not just get the real deal, when the clones cost darn near as much. It's not like an output tube that's gonna have to be changed regularly, but that's just me. Sozo is a great guy, with a great product.
Of all the clone caps out there, Sozo are up there, the best of the clones I've tried so far, but Larry "Novisbir" has a link to some caps that are very similiar, and he says they're very good, and they are much cheaper.
I think like .67 each or something.
His word is like gold with me, so I want to try them when I get a round tuit. But I'm really loving the NOS Mustards for now.
I got to try something else on this amp that really suprised me, and that's those Shuguang 11th Generation from Terry Kilgore. Holy shit, with those, this amp sounds better than mine with the Siemens. Fucking explosive sounding.
Only problem is one of them was reading about 20 mA higher that the other 3, and redplating, so I'll have to get that one replced with Tube Tramp, but Holy Crap....Picking up jaw from floor
I'm using those from now on.
Another thing I tried on this amp is Miconol (sp?) Output tube sockets, which are reportedly much more rugged, more arc resistant, made in the 50s, and good up to like 1000v or some shit. I hasd to buff the terminals with the wire wheel attachment on my dremmel. Even the terminals are rugged.
This amp has Phillips preamp tubes, and they sound as good as my best Mullards.
Thanks for the kind words my fellow builders.
I really love building these.
Mike

Only prob is it would red plate at that high, but I hear you on the mismatches.
I just created a PUTFile account
http://www.putfile.com/mightymike1,
and I'm uploading 50 plus pictures of this build right now. I want to share this build in depth with you all.
I have like 53 pictures of this thing from start to finish, from drilling the chassis to fit the bigger output tube sockets, bulgin, and Volt Selector; to wiring the backs of the boards, to finished product you see now.
I figured it could help others just starting out, and maybe entertain some of you established builder who just like Amp Building Porn and comparing notes.

They're uploaded
I numbered them in order, but they uploaded out of order
I'll try to rearrange, and add comments as I get time
Here are all the build pics. Enjoy

I'll try to upload the 69 to EVH Spec build, and the JTM 45/100 Siickenson Spec build, and my 8 can 10000 build in the near future too.
