Edward Van Halen during Fender's Winter NAMM 2007 Global Dealer and Distributor Reception, held Jan. 19th, 2007, at the Marriott in Anaheim.

I'm kinda wondering if he was sober while filming this.

he seems self consious and within reason i believe.
i imagine having cancer and having part of your tongue removed as well as losing a few teeth can do something to a person.

i believe the only reason he is there is for the money.

I have read it here that Ed is a mad scientist type who is a freak of nature who stumbled upon a way of playing that involved his own style and the instruments he crafted to play that style, plus the equipment he used to promote the tone he wanted.Ed plays rhythm guitar like nobodys business and this is often overlooked I feel.
Ed it is true has laughed at us through what he says,as any self respecting mad scientist worth his salt would!
But there was method in his madness,he is a genius and yes he is a great musician and song crafter,he is vibing off all this now,but the light has gone out for me.Nobody likes a comeback kid like myself believe me,I am living proof that you can come back from near drug induced death to be a usefull member of society and help others, but maybe that is why I was initially harder on Ed here than others,as I recognized the signs of help being needed a long time ago,the first thing an addict does is get rid of the people that helped them, because they (MA,SH,DLR) remind him of how good it was,but can't be again.I am kind of glad this proposed tour didn't happen and I hope the Van Halen brothers don't boycott the RRHF award show,as threatened.I think Roth's finest hour was with the DLR band,Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan. If Van Halen had stayed together after 1984,who knows what would have happened?
So Fender, who are amongst the worst whoremongers recently, musically speaking, dug up Ed's body from it's temporary grave and are parading the corpse on stage to push their crap,no the Frankenstein is not better than it's master.Where are the townspeople with their torches to drive the mad scientist and his monster away for good, and is Micheal Anthony relegated to Igor status?
It is a sad thing all of this, and it is a sign of the sick times that we are living in that music has never been so publicly pimped out, than at the present time!

I'd pretty much agree with that. It's a joke that's not even funny. I'm totally cool with people and their problems because after all, we all have them and we've all been young and made poor judgements at times but sometimes, certain people just ooze this f#$% off attitude like they're above it all. To me, Ed kind of gives this vibe as he pedals this shit and tries to sell the idea that there's some magic because he's working with a company that in his words, "finally gets it". Are you kidding me? Ed, shut your mouth, clean up your life and play guitar.
Cheers to the ears.

Seeing VH one more time would be a good thing.

Going to Cabo and catching Sammy and crew jamming at the bar while slamming some tropical drinks... now that would be a really good thing

Dave has this all figured out as only he could. When I viewed the Namm Fender video I almost laughed out loud, but just kept thinking what a sad goddamn person Ed has become. He will get worse before this all has a chance to get better...if at all.

Ed was never this f^&%ed up in the past. I guess that as he gets older the booze, smokes, and whatever else take their toll in a very unforgiving way.

God Bless him...

I think your exactly right Cole. I have seen what alcohol and drugs do to the mentality of "older" people. It is very saddening. All of the intricacies of personality are dimiished. Hell, I even know better than to, at this point, drink to much or let "other" things get in the way. Ed has time for another shot at straightening up.
