stan, its funny what u hear about speakers. one would say less bottom... that could also mean more highs. or thsi speaker has less highs whihc means more bottom, u knwo what i mean? my opinion of the blackbacks i have is that they are a pretty flat response speaker. and i have heard others say it as well. its relitive to what u r comparting them to i suppose.

Star*Guitar wrote:You know Stan..yours sound real close...but sounds too open somehow...your losing the compression that was evident in early versions of amps you modded or put together...Somehow you are not as close as you once were. It sounds more like my Peacemaker and Scorpion so I am betting it is the MM trannies...my personal experience is.. I would never consider them great EVH amps. They get you in the ballpark, sounds kinda like....but that's it...Great amps...I love them...but not nailing that tone.

I am going in circle hear so bear with me..Mark's Plexi with MM self leads sounds great though...he found the right mix of compants to add the right amount of drive and compression. So much so..I found a deal on one and picked up a used one from John Sozo.

Mikes clips have that compression. They sound closer to me..So ****** is closer out of the box in my view.

Stan I remember you buying Cerrems trannies and selling me on buying them. I bought a real custom one from ****** for a 50 watter...I wanted it to sound like a 100 wat Plexi and not lose that 100 watt drive.....****** said he could do it...

Believe it or not I put it in my Scorpion but it was way dark..so much so I couldn't brighten it up enough.

However I will say ****** told me what componants to mod inside the Scorpion to open it up.. but I didn't want to do all that soldering inside a 2500 dollar amp..LOL...So I took it out...

I am going to build a 50 watter someday and Cerrems tranny is going in it...then I can mod like Crazy...Now I am sure it will get me there....
This is funny, I was steered towards ****** trannys in part because BMF515o steller initial steller reviews, when he first got them.

Then I have them on order, and then he doesn't like them anymore.
I didn't know what to think. Glad it turned out well.

I've actualy had the trannys for a quite a while, but built the 12000 around them a few weeks ago.

I have Mullard and Siemens, but I'm gonna try some Sylvania-wa and Ge Fat Bottles in it. Probably in a week

I'm still using the JB pickup for now.

I had a JB in a Wayne Charvel axe...that guitar totally smoked but I hated the JB..In that axe it sounded muddy as heck.

Mine has a Swamp Ash body with KOA Top.

I forget if that helps or hurts for tighter bottom end.
