I'm not sure it's that significant after all, some reactive load makers claims resistive loads are useless, but my clips using one tells another story IMO... :) And EVH seemed to do fine with one the couple tours he used them ;)
Listen to the clips in that TGP thread. The clip with the resistive load sounds flat but the reactive load sounds nearly identical to the non slaved clip. Maybe not significant until you A/B them.

I know the thread well, I posted in it... :)

I'm buying a Bad Cat Unleash with a reactive load in February hopefully, and can do some A/B testing then.
In the meantime I'll keep ejoying the results from the $35 "Tone Shaft" ;)

How hot does the load resistor get when you push it full blast? :)

Pretty hot indeed, but not to the point that I worry, it's a 300watt resistor so it should be fine. :)

When I made my load box I used 4 different resistor mounted to and old car stereo heat sink!ts built to 400watt 20 ohm!..line level makes a hug difference which one you use!im using the Dave Friedman line level that evh uses as well

I use a Custom Audio Electronics line out box built by Bob back in the 90's some time, so it should be quite similar to what Ed used back then. :)

I look forward to trying a reactive load, but to be honest I'm still blown away how good it sounds with he resistive one.
And of course the Matrix power amp is making it easier as well.

Very very happy with the Matrix.
But it would be really cool to have the three channel one indeed, that would be an extremely controllable w/d/w rig. :)
Would have been fun to pull of a super compact rig with three big sounding 1x12"s.

Btw here's another clip. I made this to show off the new Neunaber stereo delay patch, but used the Bugera, resistor and line out box, line out straight into the Neunaber Stereo Wet, then into my recording interface, then added speaker simulation in Pod Farm. As what I play is VH, it's relevant .. ;)

Strat and not cranked here.

That stereo delay really makes the guitar sound big and very encompassing. Alot like Ed's original tone on all the albums, his guitars were always so big and alive sounding never buried in mix!

Sounds Great BLIX! Very Impressed!

Can you share your Stereo Delay settings?

Thank you! Stereo delay is indeed key to making things sound huge. With the right delay you can get away with a lot of it without it getting in the way as well. The Neunaber is one of them :)

I don't remember the settings, the ratio between left and right is fixed at "the golden ratio", and I just set it were it sounded good... :)
