Thanks for the info guys, have questions though.

I have a pair of GE 6CA7's laying around I can experiment with. In this receipe, are they way different than the Sylvania's? Also, how about the new EH ones? Amp is a 1959 built with Metro parts, close to the spec in this thread but with EL34's. Am looking to tighten up the bass, with the control higher than 2 it gets flubby.

Again, thanks that those that have seen Ed's amp and are able to talk about it.

I was confirming that specific Marshall head, he had others, no one said anything about Boogies. Thanks for your help.

We know George saw the amp and Dave worked on it. But did either of them hear Ed play #12301 in the room. And did it sound like anything coming outta this forum :D

To be a fly on the wall....

He must like it if this amp was tracked for the new album.

So the BIG tranny must have been POST first album (Like Late '78 VH2 studio shots were over a year after VH1). The Ot in the VH1 and earlier, probably wasnt a '2 or '2.5 or whatever. If Ed used a 'pulled' '68 super tremelo OT for Dave F. to use in his 'refurbish', then maybe he (Eddie) was hip to what the changes/differences were, concerning the TONE, of his original Plexi ?

Perhaps the transformer change to a 2" was one of the reasons he thought the amp had lost its tone. If he dug it, then he would have had a 2" put right back in it.

I know from reading that several here favor the bigger OT for VH. It might be preferrable in helping achieve the tone on the first album, but I tend to think what you hear post production is not exactly what was coming out of his speakers.
Why is it we can remember where all the wires go, but can never find a pick?
