Excellent point. I addressed this about a month ago when I sent an old Dagnall from my '69 Superbass to Heyboer. My next run will have only the two bolts.

I've also found some differences in the laminations and the wind between late '67 and 69. Interesting stuff.

lol,im not sure its you can even produce a perfect clone, they dont make the silicone steel like they did in the 60s-70s..your best chance of reproducing those trannys is is getting the steel from 3rd world countrys.i had that talk with my professor in my metalurgy class a few weeks ago.bottom line is that you have to find the tranny that has the sound your after.for VH you want the merc.both mojave and roccaforte have great VH tones and they both use the merc outputs.if you want AC/DC then i would stick with the ******,its more voiced in that direction.

Know we are talking here and I agree with you on the more AC/DC or darker tone with ******'s output, But you still can get a dead on EVH sound if you know what your doing... know do you want to know why ****** tranny is that way? ****** owned over 22 Super Leads over the years and he reproduced the best sounding Dagnall he had from all of then, he even ask lots of people wish one he should use to make his actual model and they all came to the one he has now, very warm with rich hormanics, etc...his copy actually comes from HIS favorite plexi he own still today one of them it's his 1967 plexi if I remember right, but that would be for his Drake output, You would a/b those two and it's dead on, I don't remember wish one for the Dagnall....anyway Chris told me that some Dagnalls are less dark, more highs, etc...see...it's like the best same fuckin ice cream but with different flavors.......so ask ****** to make it brighter he will no extra charge........

Honestly, ANY cranked Marshall (even with the Heyboers) will get the AC/DC tone. By setting everything on 6-7, with the proper playing technique, you can play Jailbreak and it will sound JUST like the record.

Steel is another area that has taken some real scrutiny. To get it right you have to have it rolled in the right thickness, in the right grade. And there's one place in North America that says they can do it.

BMF5150, I think you had checked into this for John.

So for now, we are making these clones with any of the available grades of steel. And choosing based upon their tonal qualities.

The new run of Dagnall clones should arrive in about 3 weeks.
