James you're only 4 hours away...that would be worth it to hear/play Kevin's rig :D

i messed around with 75 VAC last night and dimed the EP pre. there's a lot of goodness to be had with that setup. I'll record this after Turkey day. Its got sizzle, smear, sag, all the tasty descriptors...

happy thanksgiving all. particularly thankful for George's dream to supply all this for us, as well as chasing the tone dream with all you crazy people.

With the variac at 75, are you finding that you need to go to -12db on the HotPlate or are you still in the -16db variable range?

Yeah. I'm in if I'm not offshore. It's a 50/50 chance. Literally. :D
I don't know all the memebers by first name except for Roger, Eric (you) Rob and George. I did know, wish I could still say "DO KNOW", Mark and Ben.

Ah....you're slaving instead of straight attenuation. Kudos for making it still sound raw and ballsy.

Can't wait to hear it Kevin...I'm sort've debating about getting an EP-3 pre-amp clone pedal...I just don 't know if it would be useful in my Mod 5? I'm already happy with what I'm getting now. I know it can have an impact on a setup like yours, but I wonder if it has any meaningful impact on a Mod 5?!

alright, letting it hang out here. I rolled tape Saturday after going nuts over the cabinet isolation and post processing compression. This clip exposes my technical ability bigtime but i think is worth posting because there's some similarities to the first album that are worth sharing and opening to you guys for discussion. be kind :hide:

I'm still working on the right side reverb. not adding post. dialing in via pedals.

Good. How did you do the post compression?

shannon, i'll fire off a screen shot of the settings.

for comparison, here's a clip of WACF and FW stuff. same exact rig, different recording method. blended in 2 mics on the left side cone, centered the right wet cone in the mix. no post processing compression. les paul with a SD pup, I need to crack and find out exactly which one. bought it this way and forgot what it was....

nice playing Eric.

point being, I think the rig changed very little on the first few records. maybe a pup, but most is in the production.

These sound really really good!!

So, Kevin's is slaved and the one Eric posted is straight in?

Same rig means? Ep3 pedal? Any EQ pedal, MXR or GE-7?

Eric, can you post a pic of your EQ settings? Are they flat with just a 1.6k bump and the last slider?

Kevin needs to build and LA2 compressor!

Everything is slaved. No EQ. Just an ep pre up front as a placeholder for an echoplex.

The FYLT clip I posted was just the HotPlate, -16db (and then some with the variable knob) attenuation, and you're correct about the GE-7. All sliders were level and just a slight bump on the 1.6k level. The far right vol boost was mid way between level and the highest setting.
