Don't mean to de-rail the thread but speaking of phaser's, I'm curious to know if anyone else uses, or has tried the Joyo Vintage Phase. I have one and it kills. Anyone else? :what:

+1 to EH6CA7's and +1 to the Whirlwind Phaser too!

I've had the EH's in there for nearly a whole year. They definitely push you in the right direction for early Ed; cleaner distortion.

I've been real pleased with the tone of the EH 6CA7s in my amp as well. They aren't a perfect matched quad, and I think that lends itself to the complexity of the tone.
Why is it we can remember where all the wires go, but can never find a pick?

From the pictures I've seen, Sylvania's...3 round holes in the plates.

Thanks for confirming that i was not sure, and for all intents and purposes seems from the tone and spec of eric 12000 he pretty much has eddie's amp, sounds dead nuts on to me.
sounded outstanding in that clip with the sylvania's NOS 6ca7's

Thanks, and in case anyone is new here it should be said that I take no credit for the spec of that 12 series. That's YMI5150?'s build (his first one) with the help of many top forum contributors (Phil, Ben, Shannon, Robert, etc.). It's proof of what many have been screaming from the mountain tops here that there's no shortcuts or substitutions for running a 12 series through a 4x12 with the correct speakers.

That particular clip is a DSD in a California Series Strat (ala Rockstah) with a little EQ bump from a GE-7 and coming through a 1777 cone Black Back. That combo does have a VH1 grit/smear

Eric in that clip with those specific components(NOS sylvania's) in the 12000, the black backs,strat/dsd combo the ONLY thing
i hear missing from the exact VH I tone is the production(that exact verb and ted and don of course) and since that is impossible to recreate i would say your amp is exactly what eddie's sounded like outside of sunset studio's.
So now you and anyone else that has played that 12000 know what it is like to plug into ed's marshall
you lucky bastards!

That is the opportunity that Velvet George has given all of us! It's taken a few years of selling of old gear and meeting the right people to get this setup. Kevin Hollbrook is quite an awesome dude too.
