I don't understand what you mean by 4 bolts instead of 2? You mean the mounting bolts?

I think he's referring to the bolts holding the end caps on; there's 1 on each corner rather than two on the center of each side.vanhalen5150 wrote:I don't understand what you mean by 4 bolts instead of 2? You mean the mounting bolts?

So we would know it had the same bell covers but we wouldnt know if it had that same reading, I guess.

I suppose. But if it is a more standard 2" Drake, I would think it would have to be the 1202-132, because his NFB was on the 4 ohm tap, so it would seem reasonable that the possibilities are limited to this rare OT...whatever it is...and the 1202-132. please correct me if I'm wrong someone. I don't think I've ever seen a pic with a 1202-132 that had the end bells screwed on with a bolt on each corner like this, but that doesn't mean there weren't any.vanhalen5150 wrote:So we would know it had the same bell covers but we wouldnt know if it had that same reading, I guess.

As far as I know Dave Friedman posted that he was told that the VH2 transformer was there before VH1 and in the early 1990s Ed seems to have some problem about disliking the output transformer like it had gone weak so Steve Fryette changed the transformer against his judgment because he couldn't find anything wrong with the transformer and Ed still wasn't happy for some reason so the amp then went to John Suhr who changed Steve Fryettes VHT transformer and who knows what Peter Van Wheelden did because he got the amp next and apparrently rewired it and maybe did other things.

They look the same to me. Speculation here, but if Steve changed the OT against his better judgment and the amp still didn't sound right, it would seem logical for the next tech...John Suhr, to put the original OT back in. Those OT's in both pics look identical to the one Chris posted a pic of.
Why change the OT, it's clear to see the problem is that he's missing a preamp tube!

It's harder to tell from those pics, but there's really only one way to test this, assuming it's even possible, and that's to make a few more of these bad boys and try em out!

personally I like 6ca7s with a higher primary impedance (load) than the 1k75 of the standard dagnalls and drakes. I guess 2k2 or higher would work fine

Firstly , I wanted to appoligize to Roe . I had a bad attitude and I am sorry Roe . Not my style , but shit , emotions are raw these days .
Anywhoo , nice to see folks engaged.
We lost Gary Moore recently , it hurt .
I admit I wear my emotions on my sleeve , the scars of an artist.
So , its kool Chris chimed in . Man is way cool , and uberknowledge is his game
Thing is , 8 ohm tap on the amp on the 16 ohm cab .
means whaaaa?
1750 primary on the otx impedence .
On the 8ohm tap its 3.4k like a 50 watt spec.
So Drake on a 16 ohm cab is more Hendix with full chords.
Way louder and organic gind is the greenbacks hot and bothered.
The stock JMP 100 was the go to . On the 8 ohm tap . Grinded harder and the 8 ohm amp selection raised the impedence to a women in love with perfect corrected Ed intonation .
I still firmly stand and yell from my position the power transformer was the most important and the physical 3D plane is ignored entirely bcause no one will undertake reading perhaps the most enlightening topic MAGNETICS .
Its not amps .Its organic life and the effects of , its encompsing our universe and the relationship with harmonics and more importantly resonance . Perhaps the most interesting personal journey you can embark on . The 3D plane with its components synergistic interaction are whats going on here .
Have Chris wind the correct power trans . Its the genesis . Use the same chassis and caps , use the JMP 100 wound by Chris and ru the 8 ohm tap . Boom VH1 , the later VH2 was the big Drake ot Jose replaced . Volume and clarity all of which Ed wanted live . The opening show of the second world tour featured the snake guitar and was so unreal .
Read about magnetics will ya ?
The resonance you experience with vibration is a key to becoming a player tuned in to the universe.

Does anyone have pics of a 65-66 era Park 100 watt? I found a few blurry shots from an old ebay listing, but all I can make out is that it's a 2" core OT. Someone's gotta have something.

StuntDouble,
That guy on plexi palace who said that transformer is from a simms watts amp...Check out the sticker on the end bell. It looks like a dagnall logo.

I don't know if that's the exact same transformer Chris showed us though, but it looks a bit like it.
I have an O100JM-VZ on order, but I'm going to try to hunt down one of these old SW amps. They don't seem to be going for too much.

Simms watts are kinda rare on evil bay. I have an ongoing ebay search for simms watts stuff because sometimes the cabs have fane crescendos in them.(David Gilmore tone - not EVH) It's pretty rare they pop up. Does anybody have or have ever seen one of these? I'm sure UK folks have seen a few more of these then USA folks.jp0971 wrote:That guy on plexi palace who said that transformer is from a simms watts amp...Check out the sticker on the end bell.
