♪All my life I never stopped to worry 'bout a thing, *plink*♫, but when I previously posted mentioning the millisec's were somewhere 'round 300, I think I was probably referring the to Cathedral, sorry 'bout dat... Here's the setting...
from GP mag wrote: (“The Phase 90 doesn’t really phase [that strongly], it just kind of gives you a treble boost, which helps solos cut through,” says Ed) and then into a tape delay set for one tasty 100- to 150-millisecond repeat. Last but not least, you’ll of course need a voltage-starved (thanks, Variac!), late- ’60s 100-watt Marshall Super Lead. Crank every knob all the way up while driving a 4x12 cabinet close miked with two Shure SM57s—one angled off-axis for extra bottom.

Jimi you are too kind :D
I messed around with a tape delay plugin to no avail. But I did find out that the echo time was right about 100-120 milliseconds so Ed is telling truth there.

I'm still thinking about what Rob heard in my clip. My first thought was guitar/pickup. Some of the things he heard have to do with negative feedback. I think a stiffer or harder sound would be closer. The one factor that I keep coming back to though is speakers. I recently played through an old 1973 Marshall cab with pre rola greenbacks that have thousands of hours on them. That cab and speakers sounded so killer! No harshness to be found. These speakers have been recorded many times. The sweet spot? Dead center on the cone! We had my cab there for comparison sakes. My greenies had the same character but nowhere near the smoothness in the upper frequencies. The sweet spot on my speaker is about an inch to the right of the cone. When I first bought those speakers it was about 2 1/2 inches out. I guess my point is that those speakers that were used on the recording of VH 1 were some seriously hammered broken in pre rolas. Think of all those club gigs and the sheer volume and amount of hours that those speakers endured. Talk about serious breakup! I am a firm believer that speakers continue to loosen up as they get older. I know my speakers get a little better after every time I play my amp full out for for awhile. How many of us here have speakers that have been punished like this? I'm curious to know. Maybe Jim from Scumback could chime in here. I'd really be interested in what his thoughts are on this.

TJ nice stuff:

Better setting for your spec, I suggest

Presence -4
Bass-4 or 5
Middle-5.5 or 6.5
Treble-7
Master-6.8
Preamp - 5.5 (after this it turns to 80's Dokken/ Ratt tone)

Beaking down the slide in 16th's would yield an understainding that Ed does it in time on the 4 ee & ah.
Scrape is on the "4 and" ; slide is "ee & ah"
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.... I was fucking lazy alright, lol !

Well let's see if we can figure this out. Let's rule out the guitar and pickup first. Here is another clip with a different guitar and pickup. Even though I'm not playing the same song it actually might be good to see if those same things you are hearing exist in this other clip.

Thorny,

I bumped into this Hang Em High ISO and it reminded me of the clip you posted with the killer Hang Em High riffs.

I was surprised how saturated this tone sounds in an ISO. Not quite as stiff as I tend to think of it. :rocker:

Where is the thread where we posted the actual clips? This thread was where we talked about the clips but there was a separate thread for clips only. ??
