Re: EVH clip with a 71 Marshall Superlead
I´m not sure about that, but my 47k pot is mounted in a
extra drilled hole on the backside of the chassi.
Don´t know if that makes it grounded ?

Re: EVH clip with a 71 Marshall Superlead
The pot shouldn't be grounded. It is in series with the 2k7 resistor on the cathode to provide the possiblity of an additional 47k Ohms on the cathode.
Welcome to the forum Lynchster, I'm in Pickering. The pot does not need to be high wattage, a 16mm will do. I would do what I said earlier in the post and just put a 49k9 resistor across the outer lugs of the existing 1MA that is not being used in this configuration.

How about two of these 100k Piher .33 watt resistors in parallel since i don't have a 49k9 resistor and i do have these. They equal 50k.

On the outside wipers of the existing 1 meg pot. I will relocate the pot to the back of the amp though.

According to my tests, having any part of the cascaded stage too near the input will cause feedback or ( how do you spell it... ) ozillation... That's the reason I put it on the backside...Krinkle wrote:The pot shouldn't be grounded. The resistors combined in parallel will be fine.
If you did try to put it on the front, make sure that you use shielded cable and ground one end.

How the hell did I miss this post? MM Damn friend! Thats one killer clip, and Tone, I swore it was the real deal.
What transformer(opt) you using original. Its a 71 correct? With this mod? This pot will controll the gain input so you can dial her in the righ amount of gain? Mind if I ask what tubes are you using, and you said JB humbucker (see gang) Ralle uses the same well older model pup. I think the JB model sounds better on a non cascade circuit, where s the D59 is made perfect for it My opinion here of course..
Damn

It depends on wich one you want... My mod is much simpler than MM's... I bypassed the 160 u cap in mine... that's all... MM had his done by Tommy Folkesson... He had his 160 cap bypassed as well, but Tommy allso put in a lineout level pot... and I don't have the schems for that... sorry...

Thanx man... Well, if you can get those tubes... I use JJ's EL34's... I haven't really had any reason to try the other ones...
Oh... the mod I did for MM isn't the same as I have in mine now...

Hi Ralle!
Great sounding amp. I'll have to try this mod. Thanks for sharing the info. And thanks to Rockstah for making the layout.
What kind of preamptubes are you using? I think mine are going mikrophonic and I need to try some new ones.

Welcome to the forum joejoegun !!
I´m still around...
Even if I don´t do posts...I always check
out the forum on a regular basis.
Nice to hear that you like the clip
You can do this mod to a 50w as well.
Lidesnowi has a 50w that Ralle made for him...
but that mod is slightly different from mine.
You can listen to his soundclips on this forum as well.
Hopefully I can meet with Lidesnowi and do an a/b test
between the two amps...and then maybe report the
differents to you guys here on the forum.

Re: EVH clip with a 71 Marshall Superlead
Thanks for the reply MM.. Think I'm going to try this mod on a early 73 50 watt I have, but theres one thing Im still questioning... the 47k pot.... I think I seen somewhere in this thread someone mentioned its suppose to be Logaritmoc pot.?? cant find the post now..... but I've never heard of that.. I did manage to find a 50k lin. pot. in an older junker amp I had laying around... will that work??
I really don't know that much about ele. terms and such... just been working on my own stuff the last few years reading books and such, as the tech I was using retired and moved away a few years back, and the only guy around here now is a real D*ck..
I still am amazed at how close your clip is to Eds sound... I have an old 100 watt marshall that I've had since the early 80s... I think its just a tad bit earlier than Eds main marshall, ser. # 10593, but very close to being the same specs. , and while it sounds great when cranked, just doesn't sound like Eds... not the same kinda grainy drive.. If this mod does sound as good as yours in my 50 watt, im all for throwing it in my 100 watt as well, to see if it gets the sound Ed had...
