I've got one of the old MXR eq's just like "laneychris". Mine has the black sliders with the date code 1377640....40th week of 1976. It also has the embossed script "MXR" logo on the back cover.

Tazin, has yours got the red panel on the side where the date codes are? Also is the logo square corner?Tazin wrote:I've got one of the old MXR eq's just like "laneychris". A pic would be great if you get a chance

Mine has the black panel where the date code is. It also has the rectangle around the logo on the front of the unit just like "laneychris". The back lid has the embossed script MXR logo in the corner. I see what I can do about pics..

1377650. It also has those white red and yellow Chicopee caps on the pcb board.

Re: help clarifying vintage MXR 6 band EQs
Hi. Bit of thread resurrection! A mate of mine of retirement age loaned me his pedal board which mainly comprises cheap or broken junk. However this little gem is amongst it and my search for info on it led me here. So I thought I'd post a few pics up. As you can see it's a very early one like that of laneychris above. It sounds great! So much so I've decided to get one for myself, though just the current new issue version. I'll try and compare when I have both to hand.

Cheers.

Cheers.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see how the new Dunlops stack up against the earliest versions of this pedal.

Joyo makes a great $35 clone.

Re: help clarifying vintage MXR 6 band EQs
Had two Joyo pedals. Outstanding in both cases. Analog delay and Vintage Phaser. I'd have the 6 band too if I didn't already have the MXR.

Re: help clarifying vintage MXR 6 band EQs
I know one use to get flamed hard for posting Joyo stuff here.
Truth is they do sound great. True bypass toggle, back battery compartment, 9v jack. All the stuff everyone complained about the MXR didn't have.
They use micro comps but seriously it's 2014. Shit has come a long way since the 70s.
It's fun to try the vintage stuff but at $35 for the same sound? Put your money elsewhere on some new Sozo's when Valvestorm gets em in.
The housing is a heavy black metal. I doubt it's Norweigin black metal though.

Re: help clarifying vintage MXR 6 band EQs
They are all noisy little buggers with a stock 12000. Star grounding and removing the bright cap may help with that but mine sounds good without the pedal anyways. I have much doubt that they were ever used in the studio.

Oh, I think that he used it a lot on VH1 and Vh2. I see it plugged in behind the #2 pedal in front of the boom box.

I hear it a lot on the Eruption guitar track, hiss all over the place.
