I'm glad you guys are interested.....as for the recording, I was using a 12" woofer from a 1980 Sears speaker system. The mic was a $20 Audio-Technica cardiod dynamic thing that I borrowed from a friend. Unfortunately, I won't be able to record any more clips in the near future, because I don't have the gear I need to do so. Now you guys have an excuse to do this to
your amp.
Were you using a Variac to take some of the stress off tubes and transformer?
No variac, but I've got George's dual tap PT, and I've never used the 500V tap. I'm sure the 390V on the plates contributes to the tone too.
I hate that download site.
Sorry, I guess I should have looked around a little for a better file hosting site.
Did you use seperate resistors from each plate winding to the center tap or did you install the resistors across the plates (from one OT plate winding straight to the other)
What's the wattage of your power resistors, and have you protected the OT/valves with some fuses?
I wired the resistors straight across the plates, no center tap involved. I bought 4 of these
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch ... 32&Site=US and wired them in parallel, so 35 x 4 = 140 watts handling. No fuses, I should get around to doing that.

A very important thing to point out: the resistors soak up nearly ALL of the amp's output power (at least when you use 125 ohms). If you try to run a 4x12 off the amp, it will be very quiet, no louder than bedroom level. For this reason, I made a line-out on the amp that runs to another power amp for complete volume control.
