I totally agree with that. They(recessed trem's) sound totally thinned and scooped out. Back in the late 80's and early 90's alot of players were using those, I guess because of Vai. I alway's preffered the flush/top mount Floyds like the Kramers and earlier Charvels and Warmoth guitars that guy's were putting togather back then. Yngwie even put the origional non fine tuning Floyd Rose bridges on a few of his strats back in 84 or so. Much of "Marching Out " was recorded with those bridges. They gave his rhythm sound a little more crunch and made his neck pick-up sound a little less "woofy" for lack of a better word. Those old DOD 250 pedals packed a lot of bass. He never used the locking nut though. He stopped using them altogather soon after that album. I guess that if they would stay in tune that the origional Fender bridge( six screws and full sized block) would be my pick. I think that the A.Standard bridge and origional Floyd Rose would be a close second.

Too true Bainzy, that's why the Yngster is so great,he uses a dinosaur Bradshaw rack,by his own admission, lol!
I must say though seeing hom play last November in Tucson ,Az.,for almost 90 minutes, from just 3-4 feet away, was as magical an experience as seeing Jeff Beck at the Imperial College,London back in the BBA days.
Immense gobs of gain can cover a multitude of sins.
When I was first starting out as a player in my teens,I definitely sounded better with my Fuzz Face switched on !
I'm glad Jimi was in the pre-OFR era,as part of his magic, was controlling
the vintage trem,under battle conditions!

Blocking looks easy and reversable.
I want to try it on my HM Strat with Black Kahler Spider.
Here's how easy it it to do it to a floyd equiped guitar.
