Your thoughts on the EVH Seymour Duncan Pickup

Post by Ruben » Mon Jul 03, 2006 4:46 pm

Mark (Rockstah) was so kind to order an EVH Seymour Duncan for me and last week I recieved the pickup and installed it in my main Les Paul.
I used to have an Antique SD in the bridge postion
(Seymour Duncan Antique Humbucker oktober 1994 8.46 K Ohm) which also sounded great.

Now, the EVH rates about the same (8.5 K) and comes with an Alnico II magnet. I don't know what magnet came with the antique bridge pickup though.

I think the sound of the '78 PU is awesome playing my '67 Superbass Amp (modded to Lead specs).
It's got really powerful hights (with a little bit extra overdrive, which I like) and when lowering the volume on my guitar the sound of the PU stays real powerfull and VERY transparant. Just like the sound of the middle part of 'Light em up' (01:42 - 02:00) on Van Halen II. You know what I mean? 8)

Just wondering if anybody has tried or maybe even owns the pickup?
What are your thoughts?

I'm very happy owning this pickup and would really recommend it!

I have one of these pickups in my 84' Tokai super edition Strat. It definitely has the VH sound going on. My friend Dan who owns the local shop in my neighborhood http://dansguitars.com has one in his Tom Anderson and one day he plugged into a Plexi reissue HW series full stack and dimed it in the amp room of the shop and it sounded awesome, Totally VH. Dan has the skill to manipulate the sound and knows the songs so that helped alot but it sounded great with no pedals at all, just plugged straight in, he was nailing it.
