couldnt u with two variacs minic power scaling - one for power and one for the heaters?

That's what I thought - I always assumed that's why he had 2. However, I think if he did, he probably used both internally and used one to regulate plate voltage, and one for the bias.

I thought about this as well. What doesn't make sense is that he ran Rig 1 for the main set; Rig 2 for the second half. So it seems that it's 1 variac per rig...otherwise we'd see 4 or more variacs.

back in like '80 i ran my '67 marshall 50 occasionally at 140vac being the ignorant ars i was... the sound was amazing though, for the short time it lasted!

Really? I tried it...not at full volume, though, and didn't really notice a difference. Maybe my amp just plain doesn't-have-it!?!

just seemed to get louder, tighten up the distortion & the harmonics really jumped out of the guitar. i had a recording, but i think it's gone forever. kind of funny just a a few riffs then the fuse blew.
