Thanks strat78. I think I will. Really enjoying this site (and thread) guys. Lots of great info and like generous people here.Strat78 wrote:I'm sure you know that buying the parts would run around $1400 to do it right. You should go for it. Start a thread and ask lots of questions, post pics of your progress. The mod5 is easy, that is, if you still want it after hearing what a non-master marshall clone sounds like. Most guys are ripping out there Lar/Mars these days.dnkhoward2 wrote:Lord have mercy guys that thing sound great! I have to get my hands on a Mod 5. I have been reading the mod pages on here (and elsewhere) for a while now and my head is spinning with all the info.
I have been looking at everything under the sun in this tone range and a Mod 5 is the one! Will I have to build one myself? I have been looking on e bay for one to no avail.
Thanks for any thoughts on the matter

Re: Another Mod 5 finished
Thanks white noise. I'm hooked! Iv'e been a Marshall fan since the 80's. I ran a Rat through a 50 watt back then. The tones I am hearing here through what you guys are building are blowing that tone away with no Rat! Tried Mesa, a 120 watt stereo Ampeg, a Fender Hot Rod Deville, but nothing can touch the tone I got with the Marshall!white noise wrote:Thanks for the comments, and welcome to the forum, looks like this was your first post. Very rarely you can find a Mod 5 that Mark did and if you do they want a lot for them!dnkhoward2 wrote:Lord have mercy guys that thing sound great! I have to get my hands on a Mod 5. Forget about the VH sections for a while. Grab your parts for a 12xxx build, start a thread down in the basement (12series journal), load George's and Night Owl's instructions, Billy Batz layouts and get busy. Even if you create a birds nest of a build, the learning curve is great and the $1400 alone is worth it just for the personal enrichment. Oh, and what a beast you will have just sitting there waiting to destroyer all challengers! Well, except a JTM 45/100 build, but you can do that one next!

Re: Another Mod 5 finished
Was wondering, did you order that late 70's head cab from somewhere or is that a real Marshall 70's head cab?white noise wrote:Yes, its a ground up build.Strat78 wrote:Oops, I meant to say the mix cap. Terry, did you build this amp from the ground up? Where did you place the dual pot? Just wondering, because I put my last Lar/Mar in the presence spot and hard wired the presence cap and a 5k resister internally. Ran all the ppimv wires under the board, nice and neat and no noise problems either!
The "Bright CH Mix Cap", i have a 470pf in there right now, am going to lower that to the 100pf and and see what she sounds like.
I put the PPIMV on the back. I think putting it like you did on the front in place of the presence pot is so convenient! I put the PPIMV on my '87 50w marshall on the front and love it like that.
Here's a link to a few pics of it:

Would have love to hear it with even less gain, more mid push and LOUDER
But more importantly the riff is cool and cyclical.

Thanks!
The head cab was made by Bob over at Sour Mash Cabs, his work is great! Have used him a number of times.

I should have some time to record again this weekend and will do one with less gain.

NICE!
Sassy and furry. I love it. Great looking build man.
