I think we should do a
TOP TEN VH TONE clip poll. Seriously. Out of all clips we can find and know details of their origin.
Then deduce from those what the common denomitors are pickup wise. Resistance, mag type, output-then draw from there outta the clouds and see what survives best outta the smoke.
But should we make it... stock spec only entries? Or modded cascaded clips too?

I think it would clear up a lot of things like penicillen does the clap. Narrow down at least the direction we all move in or toward.
I think it would be beneficial to everyone here. Then if your still not convinced in the end you can always stay your own course. After all it is a personal choice.
Or it would be sweet to have a 10 metro member panel doin r+d on developing a pickup all ten could agree on as being as good as it gets. I wonder what that would sound like?

I think I have a clip somewhere with a 78 and an SH-5 using Ben's amp, will have to look. Ben was killed in the war and I sent his amp back to his last surviving brother. They will give the amp to Ben's son on his 16th birthday ten years from now.

It's such a fluid thing. The whole rig is the pickup in some ways. But, there is always some new fragment of information that comes along that helps triangulate a fun revelation. We never really get there, but who cares, around and around we go! It's the same old roses out in the yard every spring and that's fine with me. Wish penicillin cured arthritis. :shred:

I think a clone like this is pretty sweet. While I like the dsd for seemingly gainless amps I can see points and places it could evolve to better things with tweaks. This sounds a bit more refined to a degree. The Custom I still wanna try. And when I get my LP back (shit its been 2-3yrs since I played it) with the gibson a5 pickups it came stock with I wanna see again what it has. I actually thought it did great vh stuff but was no where near dsd hot. Maybe something there in the vein but more PAF'y tame. I had a guy swear to me those pickups were way under rated. And as I recall how it sounded.... its like middle ground between a 59 and a dsd typ pickup. Bright tight and rippy with some good drive but not bloated either. I am thinkin, can you smell smoke?
And I DO recall it having the best clean sparkle with the volume knob turned down out of everything I have owned. Its really kick ass here in this regard. So I am wondering now-is it the a5 brightness that retains those rolled down volume cleans and sizzle on full throttle? Because that has it best. 490t or something? 498t I think it is. Bein hot in the medium sense it chimes out on top end pretty good.

maybe the 498T? That one falls in between a PAF and dsd

+1, 100X over again and 100% each time. This is not a place that appreciates an individual who comes in and COMMANDS the early VH tone to the world, all the while, berating other members with childish temper tantrum's for having opinions that may differ. And all this being done within 10 or 20 post's? :what: What is your deal man?
