That sounds really really tight and punchy in a good way. EQ balance of the tone is right to my ears. Hows the ring out and sustained notes??

The sustain was awesome. I suck at micing. I am missing what it spinds like in the room. That was 166k plate. If i put a 133k sounds good also but need to back off the col pot to about 8or 9.

Sounds great Jeremy and I wonder how to get more fizz or sizzle in there? I'm wanting to know how to get it into my amp as well, but I'm not sure which components contribute most to that factor (beside slamming the front of the amp?).

I go back to Kevin's YRGM clip from a while ago which still blows me away...

im not hearing it. Its missing rhat chewyness in fair warning. I think thats in the amp. Im just gonna play it at rehersal and see how it blends woth the group. We do 80s rock so it should sound good.

There is just this green hard sheen going on and the higher plate resistor is just compounding this. Do you have a little cap on the volume pot in the guitar? Sometimes those can have a slight chilling effect on the tone depending on what kind you are using. I'd go back to 100k's and swap in some CC's here and there to add some warmth. Do you have a ceramic mix cap that you can put in? Although I think the amp sounds great, if you are still not satisfied, try swapping in some different tranny's. You might like the 2.2k 2" tranny's that we were all using a couple years ago. They really add some nice aggression. Try hard wiring your 152 taps on the PT without the voltage switch and just leave the other taps taped off. Maybe you will get some more sage this way? But you do know this will never end, right!

Phil thanks for the info. Since pulling out the bias resistors the amp became brighter.I pulled the plate resistor out and just have 100k now. I just need to dial the treble back to 8 or 9 and it sounds good.

A recording, obviously, adds a touch more mids than the 'in room' tone.I hear what your saying about a 'stock cranked plexi', its maybe a bit thin and hard/bright as compared to the 'Brown Bloom' that Ed attained. Ed's '77-'81 Studio tone (AND live tone in '77/'78) had a sound that was 'extra' SOMETHING. Lots of ways to get more of that 'Brown Bloom' (like Bray's mods/tweaks does), but in the case of Ed, his amp/s were stock. That MXR 6 band eq was Ed's 'magic box' more than likely.

I agree tone slinger. I am now just trying to get a well balanced amp for live shows. Taming the treble is my journey presently. LOL

Maybe try regular el34 again. Anyway, my old 50w is just an all around warmer sounding amp than a 100w plexi. Mixing the two is incredible and seems to take things where we have been trying to go. I just did a quick session with the two amps, but this time put the 50w last in the chain, the way you see it in the Pasadena Civic pics, all effects in front of the first amp. This is the tone I remember hearing in the 78 live shows. I also put in a 250k tone pot with a .02uf capacitor, very interesting and smooth.
