The MM and DSD do sound alike? I know they share the same basic construction but was not sure they had the same tone. Btw, are you using a older DSD or newer?

I actually have 2 DSD's. One from maybe late 90's the other one pretty old. Probably early 80's or older. If you secretly put any of the 3 in my guitar and I played them blind, I probably couldn't tell which was which. There are probably bigger differences in being either really close to the strings or backed away, then there are between the three pickups.

That would make sense considering the history, and the sound clips.

I want to try an A5 in an SH5, and compare that to a Super Distortion with an A5. I have both Pickups. Magnets are $7.. Seems like a no brainer
A alnico 5 in the SH-5 turns into a SH-14 custom 5 http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/e ... _5_sh14_a/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

More PAF sounding than the ceramic sh5.

thanks for the info, i head heard clips of a old mid 70's DSD vs a newer one and could NOT tell them apart but many swear the older ones sound better? the old ones are not potted ad thats probably the difference. unwaxed pu's are said to have more "air" to the tone. But as for EVH he potted all of his pu's whether they were dsd or paf's

The "same" is the resistance (43AWG) and nothing else - DSD: Large Ceramic mag vs small ceramic (SH-5), DSD: more output (hotter), brass, hex poles etc... and most importantly they do not sound the same

They're all good to me but I'm gonna have to revisit the Duncan Custom. Probably plenty of them on the cheap on e-bay. Or if anyone has one for trade for a DSD.

That's a custom custom (SH-14) I was talking about the custom (SH-5).

Got it. Yeah, want to try the Custom again. Something about ceramic magnets lately that just tell me early VH all day. Even VHII stuff sounding good w/ceramic mags.
