Pre Tubes
What are you all using as pre tubes, specifically V1? I seem to have had the best, most VH like tone from old Sylvania long plates and, believe it or not, the Chinese 12AX7 B. I put in a I63 Mullard yesterday and, while still a great tone, wasn't EVH at all. Very smooth around the edges and less open grit. Still plenty of gain, just not quite right. Tube Tramp sold me the China tubes and have been liking them - when I "thought" they should be of less quality.

Re: Pre Tubes
I got an old Chinese 12ax7a that sounds great in v1. Its late '80's-early '90's era.

I got some old Sylva's and Chinese from Tubetramp. Both work great at V1.
