I think the bottom two are a pair and the top two are a pair. The two bottom cones on the front are much larger than the two top cones. I don't have a picture of that though...

Anything rare here?
Thanks!

You've got a pair of old BlackBack 55hz G12M's, but at least one has been reconed with a Waldom recone kit (ruining it's value and tone). The silver pair on the bottom are G12-65 speakers. They're all 16 ohm versions.

My guess is that cab sounds fairly dark with the speakers that are installed. What rarity there was got killed when the BlackBacks were reconed, not that they were high priced.

Sorry.

Interesting. But the top two didn't look to be re-coned...only the bottom two had the bigger cone and different speaker label. I think the top two are the same and original....right?

...and when played, the cab sounded quite bright.

What Jim is referring to, is on the photo of all four, you can see a printed code on the rear of the cone on the top right speaker. This is NOT a Celestion cone code. Whilst the top two speakers are original to the cabinet, the actual cones on the speaker chassis are certainly not in the case of the top left speaker, and possibly the top right, depending on what cone codes you can find on that speaker.

Of course there's also every possibility that the G12M-65's have been reconed too, but your pics are neither detailed enough, or particularly clear to be able to determine this.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

83.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot!

The Waldom cones are brighter than the original Kurt Mueller cones. I know they're Waldom since I can see the WF1009 cone stamp in your pic. These are 75 hz bass response cones, not the correct 55hz cones which should be WF1008 cones.

As for the G12-65w speakers, the large dust cap is standard on those to reduce the high end slightly (better for metal/high gain amps), and it offers up a little more bass response than a standard G12M with a small dust cap, like your G12M 55hz should have.

If the cab is bright, that's an indication that some of the speakers have been overpowered and the voice coils have been overheated. When that happens they tend to lose their bass response and sound bright. There is also the possibility that the speaker bolts have been overtightened and the frames bent enough to make the speaker sound shrill or bright since the cones are distorted. Double check your mounting bolt installation using this method I recommend, maybe it will help.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm fairly sure (based on what you've posted) that this is the case with this cab.

yeah i found those waldom cones fairly bright/harsh sounding too. not the best cones in the world.

cab looks interesting though. looks like an old basketweave with a swapped back, or re-covered back.

Ahhh, now I see what you guys are saying! Thank you!

So, I probably shouldn't buy this old cab then....what are my options for a good 212 cab with speakers very similar to original greenbacks?
