How about the amp. Was it a jtm45/100 or a super lead.

probably a 66 super 100 amp but it could also have been an early 67 el34 amp (with dual rectifiers possibly)

I just don't have the ears to discern anything gear wise when the tone is so dominated by the "woman tone" pickup setting on the SG. The sound is so centered on that to me that it doesn't really matter what speakers or amp you are using...

Interesting twist with Tom Dowds influence and a fender possibility also an interesting cross over time with the 45/100 and the new 1969 el34 on Disraeli gears...

Steve Grindrod is right that Disraeli Gear could have been one of the first el34 amps. It could have been the early 67 super 100 amplifier with el34s or the very, very first superleads (still JTMs). To me Disraeli sounds more el34 than kt66, more 1967 plexi than 1966

I have a '71 cab with 4 original 014 coned H speakers. Through my el34 100w superbass it sounds pretty close.

If you watch the live clips from the Cream DVD's that show "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" being played on the Fool SG I hear the exact sound as the record. But again, it is more about the "woman tone" pickup/tone setting that makes the sound, not so much the amplifier or even the guitar IMHO. It is such a strong tone coloring that it makes every other element irrelevant to my mind...Just my opinion though...

The story I've read elsewhere on this site is that Clapton didn't use SL's with EL34's until October of 1967. You can hear on the BBC recordings from October 24, 1967 that Clapton's sound has changed to be much looser and middy than before. Since Sunshine of Your Love was recorded in May, it was likely recorded with KT66 output tubes.

I think Clapton usually ran M-magnet speakers, possibly until the Farewell Tour.

As a lot of people already said, most of the sound comes from the guitar settings, though.

yeah I came up with the october 67 story. and it seems to be true for the live tones. but I nevertheless hear some el34s on disraeli gear. by april and may 67 marshall were selling el34 amps

I think the answer is in the beginning riff before the drums come in. I don't hear the "woman tone" there. I hear Gibson neck tone, some sort of Marshall amp, and ?????? Speaker.

Roe,
U have a 45/100 and a 67 era super lead right? Which amp gets you closest to this sound?

I have two of the former and three 67s (two of which are superleads). Most of Disraeli sounds closer to a 67 but this song in particular sounds like it could be a 45/100
