Totally sick! Looks like two narrow metal handle versions along with the 69 which looks like someone reversed the check grill cloth at one time. What's the story behind these? They are trully my dream cabs, are there any more? :worthy: Congrats!

Hey

The 67 and 68 have matching serial numbered speakers. I was told by my amp guy that they are in really good shape- Cones were excellent.

The 69 is cool because it has 2 25w greenbacks and 2 20watt greenbacks. It has a great sound! He didn't say anything about the grill being swapped around. Its pretty old looking. Its signed by jim marshall on the inside- Which is cool.

I scored them from my local music store. I was told the previous owner had passed away a couple years back and the wife felt it was time to sell them. I bought all 3 of them before they hit the floor.

nice cabs. but i think you probably have your dates wrong...

the checkerboard is almost certainly an early 70's cabinet. with the plastic handles and homa castors etc.

basketweave in 67? its possible i guess. got any inside shots? speaker pics?

The 69 is a "Christmas Cab" I was told.

Half assembled in 69 before Christmas- Finished in January of 1970...

I was told by our local Marshall guru in Toronto...

Really ice cabs  , but you have not been acurately advised re dates, IMO of course.

They stopped making the 20watters in early '68 AFAIK (Baron will know).

The chequerboard cabs came in the UK Spring '71. I have (well until last week had) one early '71 with basketweave (9" logo, triangular base castors, LC dated T1221 speakers) and one later in the year (still 9" logo with transition label April dated T1511 speakers)

I still have 1968 (1960A) and 1967 (1935B) pinstripes with the thin handles and 6" logos (bottom strip to support baffle and pop-in castors) '68 (1935B) and '69 (1935A) basketweaves with wide flange handles and 6" logos and triangular baffle supports.

To help clear it up some inside pics of the baffle supports, the type of castor inserts undernereath, wiring and speaker numbers would help.

Is that your bedroom/sofa or spare room??

Just remembered the 69 has the date written beside Jim Marshalls signature on the inside.

I was told around this era, it was common for cabs and head boxes to be constructed- then forgotten about due to a blemish in the wood, or a warped side. Or resurrected when supply could not meet demand (a year or 2 later) thus explaining the plastic handles (71/72)- but having 69 penciled inside.

My Marshall buddy has a contact over in the UK who worked in the plant around that time.

Ill snap some good pics of the inside.

These are in my basement music space.

What's the story on the Jim Marshall signatures that can be found on some cabs from the 70's on back. I have several cabs with his signature (two signatures per cab), did he walk up and down the assembly line signing off cabs at various stages of construction?
Are there more pics of these cabs and a video still on the way?

I understand that at one time there was an issue with quality control so JM joined the cab making/covering? section. Each one he made/finished off he signed. I had a '76 1935A with his sig and still have an early '71 with his sig as well, don't know if he was a regular down there. All my other cabs from this era (basketweave and chequerboard) all have some form of sign off inside by a member of the team.

Never heard the incomplete cab story before but of course it is possible, never seen a date stamp in any Marshall cab I have or have had in my possession (12 at home now, several more been and gone :| ). You need to ask someone like Baron Greenback who has had more of these through his hands than I have had hot dinners or Jim at Southbay

I dont know why he signed them, but its definitely a very nice touch if you have a vintage cab with his signature or two inside. Ive read that story Neil mentioned about the quality control thing. The wrong people were getting the blame for some of the mistakes, so some of the workers including Jim himself, started singing their names inside. 'Ron' seems quite a common one too. Not all cabs are signed though. Apparently Jim Marshall liked doing the tolexing, so maybe he signed all the cabs he covered?
