Hey guys!

After all day researching, listening and reading various opinions I'm still undecided what speakers I should get to my "new" empty 1979 1984a cab I bought on ebay yesterday to match my 12xxx super lead I built recently. I'm sending my list of speakers I'm thing about. Feel free to add some more if you want. I'm looking for the best bang for the buck - if I had the money which I don't (times are tough) I wouldn't hesitate to get a quad of Scumback M75s. The thing is I can't even afford two of them. I want to get to an old greenback as close as possible but I need more power handling because as you all know 100w plexi is a beast.

These are my options:

Eminence GB128

WGS - probably Invaders

Tayden Retro55 (being a Fane clone I have no idea how it will go with a Marshall though but I read somewhere it doesn't sound exactly like old Fane)

Tayden Great/High Brit

dude, the ONLY NEW speaker that i would consider is Jim's Scumbacks...come on, man...its like comparing a mass produced chinese POS with a handmade, hand inspected American piece. I always say, The scummies sound like my greenies, but NEW!

Dude, I'd get them right away if I had the money. You see, here in EU they are even more expensive than in the US. Let's just say I need something good enough until I get the cash for Scumbacks. Oh and.. Tayden speakers are supposed to be hand made too - in the UK. But I can't get enough info about their sound with a plexi style amps.

If you can't afford Scumbacks and don't want to wait get used reissue greenback Celestions the standard English made model from the 90s. It is not like they are horrible or anything and they are made by Celestion and they look the part. Used ones will have some of the bright burned off being all broken in. Use an attenuator or even a single resistive load in the second speaker jack to knock down the power so you won't blow up the speakers.

Ok, I've made my choice. I'm getting a quad of Tayden Great Brit speakers. It's kinda blind shot so I hope it turns out fine.

Years ago I had a refurbished slant front Marshall cabinet that I should really have kept. This cabinet had Goodmans speakers from the U.K. as well as Celestions (or Rola Celestions) combined to make a great sounding cabinet. Should you be able to find or to locate any Goodmans speakers you would be verily impressed. Verily I say unto you, go yee out, and seek yee some Goodmans speakers and your quest will be the final one as you will need no others.

I agree buddy, cheers to all us lefty guitarists. After Hendrix died there has been no other lefty to pick up where he left off, many others have tried, the biggest obstacle being that they string their guitars upside down with the low E towards the toes.

I also remembered McKenzie speakers that Celestion used in their Marshall Country & Club (or Club & Country) combo amps which of which I used to own, just like SRV's now famous amp.

I would vote for a single Scumback M75 (65w) and a Lar-Mar kit from George...add more as budget allows. But sounds like you've already made a decision. Good luck and post your feedback once you get them installed.
