Whats your oppinions boys!

Post by johniss0001 » Tue May 01, 2012 9:03 am

Heyup guys hope all is well now I have a poll.

I am a lover of vintage goodmans 12" speakers, I have 2 4x12s loaded with some goodmans from the late 60's with "014" cones bass and guitar speakers baby! Now my problem they are all 12ohm cones say for a single cab would you run your amp on 16ohms or 8 ohms.

Would you set the amp to 4 ohms for the 2 cabs together?

nice speakers. are you sure you are reading the resistance correctly? Are they the '1248' model goodmans with '1248' stamped on the cone too? Mine read at 12.8 on the meter but that means they are probably a 15 or 16 Ohm speaker.

I took the resistance of my cabs and they are 10 ohms a piece i think they were in column pa cabs originally these cones

probably a different speaker model to mine then. is there a little white rectangular shaped sticker on the back? usually has the model number on there.

not on these ones baron i know they are 12 ohm speakers, they were the ones that were similar to the early marshall bass cabs they have a round white sticker on magnet cover saying goodmans loud speaker made in england with the wattage and impedance on it. The later goodmans had a small green label for 25watt and the red labels were 50 watters. I have another quad of goodmans needing reconed age old cone rub.

I would sell all my celestion 12s for goodmans in a heartbeat i have 3 4x12s full of goodmans and 1 marshall 4x15 with celestions that's the only celestion loaded cab i will keep.

I will just run the amp at 4 ohm for the 2 12 ohm cabs as that will be an impedance of 6 ohms, now i still have my red label 50 watt goodmans 4x12 rated at 15 ohm.

I will say this these speakers walk all over the celestions and fanes i have heard and used. They don't shift the same air as celestions or sound like they want to shake themselves to bits they are tight and chest thumping.
