That's a question which i've asked myself, i'am attempting to find out how to mimic his tone which he used in past, i know i.e he used an old Marshall Super Bass from the 70s, i know he used Marshall square 4x15s and 4x12s and used Rickenbacker basses with Gibson Thunderbird pickups, but..

What speaker cabinets and models did he use over his whole period? What speakers were inside them? I know he uses no bass in his settings, so that might allow him to use guitar cabinets(correct?), i'am not sure really

I would like to try mimic his old tones, tracking down the same equippment he used in past, think about songs like bomber, overkill, Ace of Spades e.t.c, i wanna make that tone, and i wanna do it in the rawest detail possible, i know he plays like a guitarist and plays at high volumes (nah not really he is the most quitest bass guitarist ever! *ironic*), i would like to hear if anyone have any details what speakers and cabinets and amp models he used in past, in studio, live e.t.c

What year of Rickenbacker basses did he use, and what models exactly was them? What years Gibson Thunderbird bass pickups were inside them? Did he have stock wiring? E.t.c.

I need info to make my own replica tone, and go from that to make my own tone, but i need as much info as i can get my hands on in this project, it's a long term project, i don't know if i ever will be getting as 100% close, but i'am gonna try.

Not any experience with certein kinds of Speakers that sound pretty ''Lemmy''ish ? Certein cabs that feels very much Motörhead? Nothing?

I have a real lemmy rig sod this signature crap, i have a 70s superbass, 4x15 (with original G15m cones) and 4x12 i loaded with goodmans audiom 12s so the whole rig is 400 watts also my 4x12 is angled but i may change it for a base cab.

Lemmy was a lover of G15 150 speakers my rig is very very very motorhead sounding but with a bit more headroom cause of the chinese el34s i use but the whole thing is punchy as hell. Lemmy's sound to me is all about that mid range punch.

God knows what 15s are in the 4x15 but they are not right as the cab is wired to 8 ohms and the 4x12 is a marshall mode4 cabinet so really the head will have to be running at 4 ohms if both the cabs are 8 ohms where as my cabs are 16 so i run my amp at 8.

Good luck finding a 4x15 pal they aren't that common. My 4x15 is the best marshall cab i have ever used even for electric guitar it sounds huge and has a tight bottom end

Right, but how does he solve the whole thing about playing with a bass guitar through a guitar cabinet? I recon they would be primary for guitar if i'am correct so and i've heard people say you shouldn't try to play with bass guitars through guitar speaker cabinets since that can damage things.

I know he probubly doesn't use the bass knob at all, so that might lower the danger perhaps?
And he used supposly Gibson Thunderbird pickups in his Rickenbacker basses as well from time to time, i think i read they are pretty high output but no idea to be honest.

Maybe he got new speakers quiet often perhaps because playing with a bass through guitar speakers might damage the speakers or something overtime so he might had been forced to replace them quiet often?

What do you think?

G15M speakers are bass speakers they have a response of 50Hz and the 4x12s he used were G12H or M at 55Hz. I prefer bass speakers for guitar as a general rule of thumb.

I know lemmy had G150 15s in the 4x15s, thunderbird pickups are indeed hot! lemmy's sound is more guitar range than bass range as that was his style but lemmy pounds the hell out of those speakers no matter what amps and cabs he uses. also check out some of the videos he even used some peavey gear and again he still sounds like lemmy with it hahahahaha

it's all trial and error but i know 1 thing that signature 1992 head that marshall came out with doesn't even sound like a real 1992.

I should have said my 4x15 is the best all round cab i have used for guitar and bass
