Cleaning a grillcloth

Post by ReidarNikolai » Thu Sep 01, 2011 1:35 pm

Hi there

I recently bought an old 4x12 that is "refinished" in black paint. Yukk...
The cabinett was original purple and I can turn the grillcloth, but the paint has "bled" through here and there.

Is there something i can do to remove this??

Thanks!

paint thinners is always a good one, same with some cleaning alcohol but i suggest try it on a sample bit of cloth first before tackling this if it's genuine vintage cloth.

Probably depends what type of cloth it is. I have checkerboard on my Marshall cab and the replacement stuff looks 100% identical to the original cloth. I wouldnt even bother trying to clean anything if the replacement cloth is a match. Too much a headache and too much time wasted to try and overhaul cloth in shitty condition.

Well this cab is an original purple one so it has a brown basket weave - I'd like to keep it like that :)
The cloth is in very good condition - except for the paint..

Thanks

not much you can do with that im afraid. i think most cleaners will take all the colour out of the basketweave with it too. or maybe have even worse effects.

let me know if you have any success. ive got one like that too.
