can i run an attenuator in parallel with a speaker?

I recently picked up a 16ohm black label EV12L. Id like to use it alone with an amp that only has a 4 and 8 ohm outs. Would it be possible to run a 16ohm attenuator in parallel with my EV to achieve an 8ohm load?

It depends on the attenuator if the attenuator can be used as a silent load then yes. Most can but not all.
