Speaker Break in

HI all

I have a 4x12 with G12C (the Greenback model from the Hendrix limited edition cab and the Vintage Modern).

I've just about decided it's time to let them go, as at more than medium gain, they are just way to fizzy and distorted.

I'm going to go for some WGS Retro 30 Speakers instead.

It's a shame, all my heroes play G12M (Page, Van Halen etc) but they don't work for me.

So as a final last gasp I'm going to see if I can put some more hours on them, so I wanted to know if I can break these in with a CD player? I have a hi-fi stereo amplifier but I was worried that the amp expects 4 ohm speakers. Can I just put an MP3 player or CD player Line-out, right into the amp head input and do it that way? Will that be effective? Any risks doing that?

''So finally I got tired of waiting for my 2 Scumbacks to break in.
Been playing the cab live for like 20 hours already but still sounded pretty flat.

Hooked up a cd player on repeat to my dimed 100 watter and let her rip for like 10 hours :)
The difference it made was just unreal. Now, they already start to out-shine my favourite 25 Watt blackbacks.

Beautiful bass, great mids and the hights are definitly getting there. Can't wait to have 20 more hours on them :D''

I break my speaks in with a couple full days of "A Century of Brazilian Guitar" CD thru a discman right into the amp at a decently loud volume. All that percussive nylon string and body thumpin' really does the trick. ;^)

here's how i'd break my speakers in i have an 800 watt stereo amp if the amp does say 400 watts a side at 4 ohms,8 ohms will be 200 and 16 ohms say 100 i would just use a neutral power amp pump some music through it with an eq and every so often give it lots of bass cut it back boost mid range etc cut it back wash lather rinse and repeat for how ever long necessary
