Speakers for guitar and bass

This is what it sounds like, when cones cry.

Speakers for guitar and bass

Post by Kevin » Wed Sep 15, 2010 12:15 am

Hey fellas,

I'll possibly be tweaking my 100-watter for use a bass amp, and I'm wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions with respect to speakers.

If this gig pans out, I'd like to load my 4x12 with speakers which would perform well for bass and guitar duties. If money weren't an issue, I'd pick up a quad a of high-wattage Scumback H55s or H75s and be done with it, but I'll likely end up grabbing something from Warehouse Guitar Speakers.

Would G12-65-type speakers be suitable for bass? WGS also has a 50-watt G12H copy that I was considering (93Hz resonant frequency, though).

Clammy is rocking G12-80s with bass cones with his early 70's Superbasses, but I don't imagine it would be super easy to find a quad of those. I'd like to load whatever I get into my Traynor basketweave (custom cab :) ).

Any thoughts?

G12-80 was my first thought. Bass cabs go quite cheaply though.

I know this one is in the UK and no use to you at all, but look, nobody is bidding on them old bass cabs.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for a bass cab. That poor guy only got 115 pounds for his 4x12. Yikes.

G12-80s seem to be pretty easy to find, although they mostly seem to have lead cones...

Yep, rather sad that he could only realise £115 with a cab like that. Wasn't exactly scruffy or ugly either now, was it. I guess the word bass just puts people off.

But hey, if we educated everybody, there'd be less pickings for us!
