restoring a marshall basketweave

Post by BaronGreenback » Fri Aug 13, 2010 7:35 am

does anyone know where I can find the correct size staples and staple gun to use for installing a basketweave grill cloth? I know nobody will see them but i want to do it right. i also want to use the same staples on the rubber at the end of the support post.

im having real trouble finding anything near what marshall use. :? all the ones ive seen are too wide.

Those staples are a round 3/16" wide staple. Same ones they used to tack down the piping. They're available, but you also have to get a staple gun to match them, and I think they were black, not the typical silver color, too.

Good luck. I gave up trying to get them.

Yep, they're the right size, I guess the staples corroded in the cabs after 40 years....right? LOL

Well, good luck with it. I just gave up on those and went with the 7/16" staples since they were readily available at any Home Depot or hardware store.

yeah i normally use a hand stapler and some standard wide staples, but its time to get more authentic.

I think those 12mm narrow cap staples we are talking about require an electric stapling gun, and they are not cheap, but probably worth getting if im doing a few cabs. I'll have a look around B&Q tomorrow and see what they've got.

if anyones interested I bought an Arrow ET150 stapler and some 12mm staples for it. online, not from B&Q.

the staple depth and crown dimensions are correct but they are a little bit thicker. I can live with that though.
