Celestion "Greenbacks"?
I have a bunch of (8) Celestion 25 watt speakers that came in Marshall 4 x 12 cabinets I bought new in the early 80s or possibly very late 70s. They have gold colored backs. Are these considered "greenbacks"?

What he means is throw them away into the bin carefully after you tell him which bin you are putting them in

You mean the plastic buckets on the back are gold colored? I have never seen any gold colored. Cream, gray, black and of course green but never gold. Could you post a picture let's make sure we're talking about the flower pot or bucket on the back and not the color of the painted frame which was always a sort of gold color.

Those are black backs with the standard rola celestion label that's usually gold colored for that era in the late 70's.
You'll find lots of label/plastic magnet cover variations here in my Greenback ID thread.

Re: Celestion "Greenbacks"?
Ok so "greenbacks" do not necessarily have to be green on the back. Thats kind of what I thought but I wasn't sure.
I like the ones I have. I have 6 Marshall cabinets which contain a few different kinds of Celestions and those are my favorite's for the most part. So sorry Bob but I do not want to part with any of them. I would be willing to sell you two of any of the other Celestions that I have or trade you for the ones like in the picture.
I said they are my favorites for the most part but what I mean by that is always for guitar. Sometimes I record bass guitar tracks and I prefer to use the cabinets with the 70 watt ones. When I record bass guitar tracks I record with a mic on a Marshall guitar amp (nearly allways a MK2 Superlead 100 watt) and a 4 x 12 cabinet on one channel AND direct on another channel. To my ears neither one sounds near as good as both combined.

The bottom speakers appear to be older than the tops... they have black tabs.

Re: Celestion "Greenbacks"?
They probably are. I replaced the to 2 original (cabinet is turned the other way) speakers with Celestion 70 watters a long time ago and then later came to prefer 25 watt celestions so I stuck those in there. I can't remember where I got them from except that they came out of an old cabinet.
SO I actually lied but not intentionally. I only have 6 25 watt celestions with gold backs. The other two are those in the picture.
